When you were a nipper – or indeed an adult sitting bored on a bus – did you wistfully dream of some day being on big game safari in the depths of Africa? If you haven't managed it thus far – or if you have and sensibly want to manage it all over again – do so among the peace, first-rate facilities and splendid sights from family-run Mwandi View, in the Chobe District in Botswana's north west. The traditional village of Kavimba is four kilometres to the south east, with a sealed road running all the way to the site. Game viewing is simple from Mwandi View because of its setting along the Chobe River and among three of the country's main migration routes: zebra and hippos are often seen here, elephants lumber alongside and water buck come down to drink at the river every evening. It's 18 kilometres from more wildlife watching at the Chobe National Park, and enroute to Savuti and the Okavango Delta, in an area known for its prolific birdlife and spectacular sunsets. Another splendid feature is Mwandi's ease for booking activities round and about this wildlife haven: the owners use local operators so they can support the local community, for a range of active days out including day and night game drives, river cruises (Kasane Based), day trips to Victoria Falls, bush walks and mokoro trips. Back at base, relaxation time might revolve around the infinity pool and the bar, and there's also fishing available. Mwandi View is shaded by Natal mahogany trees and has a washing-up area, showers and toilets. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed.

Likte ikke De witte eigenaar was zeer onvriendelijk tegen zijn eigen personeel. Hij dreigde dat hij ze niet zou betalen. Het is jammer dat de gehele toeristen industrie in handen is van de witte bevolking maar daar kan de eigenaar misschien niet echt iets aan doen. Wat ze wel kunnen doen is hun personeel met respect behandelen. Verder slechts 1 toilet en douches zonder deur. De hyenas wordt het afval gevoerd als toeristische attractie. Iets wat in de parken strikt verboden is maar ze zelf dus gewoon wel doen.

Fra bestyreren: Hi Niels Thank you for your stay with us and your review. Our campsite has been running for over 10 years. Our bathrooms have two toilets with doors and two showers with curtains for men and the same on the other side for women. We throw all our waste products out into the bush to decompose instead of keeping it in trash cans where, in the heat of Botswana, can rot and smell. As we have wildlife all around us, they do find the scraps but we do not intentionally feed any of the wildlife. With regard to the white owner (as you put it) he jokes a lot with the staff and they having good sense of humour give him a hard time and joke back. Most of our staff have been with us for more than 6 years so if they were unhappy with the work environment they would not be here. We need to make light in many situations as we work under stressful conditions most of the time. With regards to your statement about the tourism industry being entirely "white" owned, you should do your homework as there are many local Botswana owned tourism establishments within our country - 3 of which are in very close to Mwandi View. They would also appreciate international support.

Likte Lot of Wildlife ar the waterhole nett to the terrace. We have seen man elephants and hippos on both evenings and a leopard an some giraffs.

From Ngoma Gate, take the first road left and follow the road through Muchenje and Mabelle villages. Mwandi View is four kilometres before Kavimba village on the right-hand side of the road.

What lush land is this for getting out into the outdoors, to the local national parks and their hiking trails, or by river or vehicle into the depth of the local landscape. Bungee jumping, rafting, bush walks, drives and more are available to book on site; ask the Mwandi View team for details of what's on offer. The Ngoma gate and the entrance to Chobe National Park are about 18 kilometres to the north east. Chobe, Botswana's first national park and the third biggest in size, has four main areas (river, two marshes and arid hinterland) and is known for its high elephant population: around 50,000 wander here, possibly the biggest number in all of Africa. Also look out for cheetahs, hippos, jackals, giraffes, buffalo and thousands of birds.
