For family-friendly fabness in Newquay, Trenance Holiday Park is a standout option a 10-minute walk from the centre of this Cornwall town... you may have heard that Newquay's beaches are rather fab too... The closest sands from here are at Tolcarne beach, also 10 minutes' amble away; sand seekers can also stroll along to Great Western (15 minutes), Towan (20 minutes) and Lusty Glaze (25 minutes), as well as further afield to the famed beaches of Porth and Fistral. If you seek further hikes, the lane from the site ends at the tidal estuary of the River Gannel – a haven for wild birds and a cracking canoeing spot – which guests can follow to the sea at Crantock Beach two and a half miles away. This traditional and welcoming site has been run by the Hoyte family for three generations and sits in pretty Trenance valley with an award-winning zoo and a swimming pool to one side and a boating lake to the other. A tennis centre, skate park and bowling green, as well as riding stables and a play area, are all around a 10-minute walk away; for other amusements, a pirate-themed walkthrough experience including actors, special effects and sets is a little further at 15 minutes from the site. After lengthy strolls and swims, head back to site to put your feet up in the free wifi lounge. Other amenities at this park include coin-operated washing machines and tumble driers, along with a modern token-operated shower block and toilets.

When in Newquay, you can venture underwater to try and spot sealife or you can simply walk the 20 minutes to Blue Reed Aquarium and get up close and personal with fishy friends including sharks and rays. To feed the animals on dry land, a car's necessary: a petting zoo is at Dairyland Farm World kids’ adventure park, 10 minutes’ drive away, along with pony and tractor rides and games and play areas. A little further on at under 20 minutes, Springfield Fun Park and its 10,000 square-foot play barn is a place of boat trips, train rides and go-karting. Alpacas and teapot pigs live here too, and kids can also pet the creatures over at Healey's Cornish Cyder Farm, a 15-minute drive away (while parents sneak off to test the free samples…). To keep the whole family travelling together, Lappa Valley Steam Railway (15 minutes away) whisks guests on scenic trips from Benny Halt to East Wheal Rose.
