What could feel further away from central London than a relaxed glamping break in the peaceful Surrey countryside? Surrounded by spectacular views – and with red kites frequently spotted overhead – Milberry Green Meadows is in fact only an hour’s drive south of Westminster, and at night you can see the city lights in the distance. Boutique accommodation makes a cosy base for families or couples alike. Well-stocked with plenty of books and games, the communal covered hub also provides entertainment on any rainy days – as well as a tea-making station for a welcome cuppa. There’s no TV or wifi here, and the focus is on enjoying nature, with lots to keep children busy while exploring seven acres of meadow. If that doesn’t do the trick, join your hosts Matthew and Moira for on-site activities including nature rambles and bird-box decorating. Foodies, there are lots of places to eat within half an hour’s walk or 10 minutes’ drive. If you’re keen to spark up the communal gas barbecue, there are farm shops and supermarkets within 10 minutes’ drive for buying stuff to grill. Your hosts can also supply breakfast boxes and lunch hampers (please order in advance). Walking or cycling along the North Downs Way? Matthew and Moira can pick you up from Botley Hill Farmhouse (the highest point on the trail) by prior arrangement.

If you’re keen to see something of the Surrey countryside, the Greenwich Meridian Trail is five minutes’ stroll away, and the North Downs Way, popular with both cyclists and hikers, runs past Botley Hill Farmhouse (half an hour’s walk). Keep the kids entertained with days out at Biggin Hill (10 minutes’ drive) to tour the hangars and see Spitfires, or the British Wildlife Centre (20 minutes), where they can listen to keeper talks and get up close to badgers and pine martens. Let them run off any excess energy playing games at Laser Quest and VR Centre Bromley (25 minutes), or take younger kids to follow the dinosaur trail and meet the donkeys at Godstone Farm (15 minutes). To combine family fun with a bit of culture, visit moated Hever Castle and Gardens (25 minutes) to tour fine Tudor rooms packed with antiques as well as the sculpture-filled water gardens. See the study where Charles Darwin wrote “On the Origins of Species” at Down House, or how Winston Churchill spent his downtime at National Trust - Chartwell (both 15 minutes).

Likte Every thing was just perfect! Beautiful soundings and extremely clean and well kept carriage huts. Felt like a thousand miles from London yet just on the doorstep. Thanks for a great stay!

Likte Family ran, beautiful site with everything you need for a perfect stay. Really enjoyed ourselves in one of the Shepards Hut, very high standard of finish, with all the amenities needed for cooking, cleaning and relaxing. We loved the fire pit and used this as a bbq to make our dinner. We went on one of the recommended walks that we found in the welcome booklet and lay outside under the stars before we went to bed. Loved every part of it, wish we could have stayed for longer. Matthew was very friendly and welcoming.
