As you might guess from those crackingly amusing site pics... Smithy Farm Campsite near Preston is a working farm with quite a few animal inhabitants.
Let the kids loose at the visiting area where they can feed the animals or pedal the tractors in the play area; seating is here too for grownups to sink down onto. And it's all only 15 minutes' drive from the sights and lights of Blackpool: you might have heard that's pretty popular with the kids too...
Also on offer at this small farm is a farm shop selling milk, bread, bacon, sausages, beef burgers, free-range eggs, firewood for the campfire, ice cream and hot and cold drinks. Disposable barbecues and charcoal are available as well.
Restaurants and shops are within a quarter of a mile and a service station with a shop is 200 yards away.

The popular tourist places of Blackpool, Fleetwood and Lytham St Annes are within 20 minutes' drive of Smithy Farm Campsite. The kids will probably fancy Blackpool first: just a few options are the Pleasure Beach, Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Zoo, the Sea Life Centre and the Sandcastle Waterpark.
Fleetwood has a quieter vibe than Blackpool and is well worth a look for a day trip, as is the resort of Lytham St Annes with a good stretch of sand, sand dunes and the Lytham St Annes Local Nature Reserve.
Closer to home, a public footpath runs from the farm into town, and a leisure centre is three miles away.
