Found between the Atlantic Ocean and the Charente-Maritime countryside half an hour’s drive from historic La Rochelle, Camping La Mouette Rieuse is on the outskirts of the lively village of Courçon. It’s a peaceful and chilled site with a woodland setting, welcoming all comers (and their four-legged companions) to spacious, tree-shaded grounds. Quiet it may be, but the site still packs a punch activities-wise. You have free use of the supervised neighbouring swimming pool (every afternoon in July/August, weekends in June), and there’s a football pitch and pétanque court at Courçon’s municipal sports complex (five minutes’ walk), where you can also play tennis. Barbecues are at your disposal, but if you’re not a fan of outdoor cooking, simply make a beeline for the Le Mojito terrace-snack bar, where the kids can gorge on ice creams, croque monsieur sandwiches and paninis while you surreptitiously sample a cocktail of two. In high season, bread is delivered from a local bakery (please order in the evening for next-day delivery) and you can enjoy your breakfast coffee on the terrace while listening to the birds singing and organising your day. Some evenings in July and August there are quiz games, while dishes from Reunion Island like chicken curry and samosas are available on Sunday night, kebabs and burgers on Wednesday and moules-frites on Thursday.

  • Deze camping ontvangt alleen gezinnen (directe familieleden) en koppels; reserveringen van andere groepen worden niet aangenomen.
  • Het reserveren voor vrijgezellenfeesten is niet toegestaan via Pitchup.com.
  • Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan (zoals de pitbullterriër, tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro). Ook de volgende rassen zijn niet welkom: de staffordshire-bulterriër, Amerikaanse staffordshireterriër, rottweiler en mastiff.
  • Minderjarigen (18-) dienen te worden vergezeld door een ouder en/of officiële voogd.
  • Het buitenzwembad is geopend tussen 06/07 en 31/08 (afhankelijk van de weersomstandigheden).

Staying at La Mouette Rieuse puts you in a handy location for discovering the Charente-Maritime region. You might like to start with a day exploring the old port, historic ramparts and aquarium at La Rochelle (half an hour’s drive). Alternatively, Rochefort-sur-Mer (45 minutes) is rich in maritime heritage, with an impressive transporter bridge, a museum of rope-making at the Centre International de la Mer and a life-size replica of the frigate ‘Hermione’. There are two splendidly old-time islands to explore nearby. Take a ferry from La Rochelle to the Île de Ré for easy cycling to the Vauban fortifications at Saint-Martin-de-Ré or the Phare des Baleines lighthouse for far-reaching ocean views. The Île d’Oléron is reached by bridge from the mainland at Bourcefranc-le-Chapus (an hour); spend a day on a sandy beach, eat oysters for lunch and be sure to glance across to the famed Fort Boyard sitting offshore. For more adventures in nature, Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park (10 minutes) has a myriad of hiking and biking trails in its marshy wetlands; you can also take a cruise down the park’s network of waterways aboard a traditional flat-bottomed boat.
