All set for exploring and in the mood for history? Amboise (20 minutes’ drive) is both scenic and historic, positioned in the Loire Valley and home to a range of different historic sites such as the 15th-century Château Royal d'Amboise (20 minutes) above the river Loire, which has the tomb of Leonardo da Vinci and underground passageways. A little outside of the town is Château du Clos Lucé (15 minutes), where Leonardo da Vinci used to live and remained until he died in 1519. A few of his designs are there for visitors to browse through. If you’re looking for places that should please the kids, ZooParc de Beauval (35 minutes) should fill plenty of hours, as it has more than 35,000 animals (and around 800 species, to add to that). Among the ranks are bears, hippos and koalas. There’s also a cable car that extends over the enclosures so that you and the kids can get a bird’s eye view of it all.
