Looking for a lakeside setting and bags to do for the kids in Brittany? Your search is over, so pack your bags and head for Ze Camping at Camping Au Bocage du Lac, 20 minutes’ drive from the pretty town of Jugon-les-Lacs. The site sits next to the 70-hectare Lake Jugon, has a waterpark with a heated swimming pool and slides to zoom down, and a mini farm for animal-loving families. And that’s just for starters. You also have access to a pétanque court, ping-pong table and multi-sports field, while there’s an arcade with table football, snooker and pinball machines available for an additional fee. Younger guests are taken care of at a playground with a sandbox, slides and inflatable games, while older kids and adults can go fishing on the lake (permits are available on site), play water polo, go kayaking and paddleboarding – and not forgetting hiring bikes to explore the Breton countryside. Things hot up even more in the summer holidays, with sports tournaments, kids’ activities on weekday mornings and a club for teens. If that’s not enough to tire everyone out, try the pre-dinner games and themed evenings (think foam parties and karaoke) at the site’s lakeside snack bar. In fact, so organised is this place that there’s also an on-site shop to take care of your shopping needs.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

Cute Jugon-les-Lacs is a ‘Small Town of Character’ and handy starting point for exploring the medieval city of Dinan (25 minutes’ drive), with its half-timbered cottages lining the River Rance and 14th-century castle. Lamballe-Armor (20 minutes) is home of the Lamballe National Stud, where rare Breton horses are bred; you can watch equestrian demonstrations and take guided tours of the stables. The coastal resort of Saint-Malo (25 minutes) and the oyster beds of Cancale (45 minutes) also make great days out, and for a longer trip, head to the 14th-century abbey that tops the island of Mont Saint-Michel (an hour), remembering to check tide times before you go. To enjoy a coastline closer to hand, the rugged Côtes d’Armor (20 minutes) has several fine sandy beaches for the building of sandcastles and dips in the sea. You can also stomp the rugged headlands over precipitous cliffs along the GR34® long-distance coast path, or take bird-watching and seal-spotting cruises around Sept-Îles National Nature Reserve from Perros-Guirec (an hour and a half).
