A friendly spot that welcomes families and solo travellers, eco-friendly Swift Farm is part of a smallholding just outside the pretty medieval town of Sandwich (five minutes’ drive). This site is surrounded by the green Kent countryside, which means lots of possibilities for walking (maybe with your canine friends, if they’ve joined you on your camping holiday) and cycling. You’re also within a short drive of several coastal resorts, including Broadstairs (25 minutes), Margate (half an hour) and Whitstable (35 minutes). Pitch wherever you like on the lower paddock; if you want to light up a blazing fire, you can hire a firepit from the on-site team. Kindling is provided for free, while logs are available to buy, as are free-range eggs for your breakfast – freshly laid by the resident happy chickens and ducks. When available, homemade jams and marmalades are stocked too. Tea, coffee and milk for hot drinks are provided for free if you are travelling light. On-site facilities include composting toilets and a shower shack with hot running water, as well as a washing-up station with a small water heater. There’s a small communal fridge and freezer where you can store a few essentials, and a gazebo where you can seek shelter from the sun (or the rain). This is a working farm with livestock and farm machinery, and you’re welcome to come and see the animals (including horses and goats), but please ask a member of the team to accompany you.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

The seaside town of Deal (15 minutes' drive) has several miles of pebbly beach fringed by wild fennel and a long promenade with a cycling path. In addition to two centuries-old fortresses (Deal Castle and Walmer Castle, where you can see the Duke of Wellington’s boots), the town has a lively high street with independent shops and cafés. You can hand-feed lemurs and anteaters at Howletts Wild Animal Park (20 minutes), and get to know the habits of other residents, including rhinos, gorillas and Sumatran tigers. The Animals of the Ice Age exhibition displays life-size dinosaurs in an atmospheric wooded setting. With its spectacular stained-glass windows, imposing vaults and the martyrdom site of Thomas Becket, the cathedral in Canterbury (half an hour) is well worth a visit. The lively university city also has a handful of good museums, including The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge, with local history displays, plus rotating exhibitions.

Ik was blij met Lovely quiet, clean campsite. Owners were so welcoming and the facilities including the composting toilet were spotless. So much nicer than the usual cramped, smelly plastic chemical loos.

Saharatent

Ik was blij met Wir hatten das neue Tippi, es ist richtig groß, komplett verschlossen, kann aber mit mehreren Öffnungen mit Fliegengitter zu belüftung geöffnet werden. Ich finde es gut, dass es ein Platz ist, der mehr auf Nachhaltigkeit achtet sprich - Komposttoilette (sehr sauber!) nur ökologische Seife darf verwendet werden und man muss Müll trennen. Es gibt auch eine kleine Garage, in der man seine Handys laden kann oder sich Tee kochen oder auch Eier kaufen kann. Dort gibt es auch Informationsmaterial über die Umgebung.
Wir wurden auch sehr freundlich empfangen und haben alle notwendigen Informationen erhalten.

Ik was niet blij met Teilweise ist die Wiese etwas schräg, was vielleicht für Camper mit Zelt unangenehm ist. Zudem fand ich ein einzige Toilette und Dusche etwas wenig. Es hat zwar bei uns geklappt, es hätten aber nicht mehr Besucher sein dürfen.
