Opened by the Shingler family in 1974, Lower Lacon Caravan Park is just a mile from the stunning market town of Wem in north Shropshire. With train and bus services in Wem being within walking distance, the site has easy access to plenty of local attractions, including Shrewsbury, Ellesmere and Whitchurch (which are all within 25 minutes' drive of the site if you'd rather take your own transport). The site has a very convenient and secure set-up, with a barrier system, 24-hour emergency cover and a warden and owners living on site. There are two play areas on site, as well as crazy golf and a heated outdoor swimming pool with a toddler's paddling pool (please take note that the pools are only open during high season for pre-booked sessions only, and weather dependent). For extra entertainment, the J.A.K.K.S. Barn (open on weekends during low season and closed during winter) has a bar and occasional family discos. When you're hungry, pick up snacks at the on-site supermarket, which also has an off-licence. The J.A.K.K.S. café and takeaway (open on weekends during low season and closed during winter) are on hand for further refreshments. By the pool, there's the choice of CJ's Snack Bar (weather dependent) and the adults-only Windmill Lounge Bar (only open during high season or on weekends during low season and winter), which has a marquee. Lower Lacon Caravan Park has a pretty cool backstory, having started as the back entrance for the Aston Park American Army Camp, a munitions and distribution depot built in World War II (on land purchased from owner Clive's paternal grandfather). During its development, a D8 bulldozer sank in the soil, so the land was covered with three feet of solid materials from local foundries; this can make placing pegs difficult but it also means that the team have never had to turn away any customers due to bad weather as the pitches stay firm.

Ik was niet blij met Absolutely shocking experience I was not allowed on the site, I have a van for motocross only not work related use at all they wouldn’t let me on the site unless i kept my van in a lock up with no access for the weekend the manager said I should get a refund, absolutely never choose this site again & other van where going in & out why we was waiting for staff to sort us -5 out of 5

Food and choice of drinks great. Swimming pool looked fab, but we didn’t use

Ik was blij met My kids loved the park. The size of the pitch was great and the privacy from the hedge.

Ik was niet blij met Most other things. It was really hard to pitch as under the thin layer of grass is just stone. The pitches weren’t very well marked out and the map they give you is useless. The ladies in reception were very unhelpful and rude. The pool was freezing and not very clean. We were in the family pitches and they’re not anywhere near any toilets or washing up facilities. The showers are outdated and you have to be careful what time of day you shower as they might be cold. Some of the other campers were just feral!! One child got run over by another child going around on his motorbike!! I smelt drugs being smoked numerous times but didn’t see where it coming from. All in all we didn’t enjoy our stay here and won’t be rushing back.

There’s a long list of things that we disliked.. not enough toilets or washing up facilities, the ones there were filth.
The staff in reception were rude and extremely unhelpful.
The pool was freezing and dirty.
You can’t actually put any tent pegs in because it’s just rocks and stones under a thin layer of grass.
Majorly over crowed!

Ik was blij met Our first camping trip and this site was amazing, everyone was so friendly and helpful. Great value for money and food and drinks were good prices didnt feel ripped off if anything was the opposite.

Ik was blij met Good sized pitches, cafe on site, two bars, one an adult only, open air swimming pool. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area & a well stocked shop.

Ik was niet blij met There's nothing I didn't like about the site.

Ik was blij met We liked all of our stay, from our pitch to the 2 big parks for the kids, nice walks round through the forest. Showers and toilet were immaculate all the time. Always gor a swim slot as they book you for 45 mins. 4 happy kids. Mini hold was a bonus aswel
