Choices, choices… it’s a pick-your-own-pitch setup at Mowbray Meadow, so you can take a stroll around and settle down with whichever view takes your fancy. And what views they are – this 10-acre site is in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with 360-degree views over the surrounding countryside. One thing you won’t have to factor in when selecting your spot is the ground quality – the pitching area is all flat and level, so setting up should be straightforward enough. Composting toilets and showers are available to guests, and you’re welcome to build fires to keep toasty in the evenings as long as you buy fuel on site (no foraging in the undergrowth for sticks, thanks – it’s very disturbing for the wildlife). Speaking of wildlife, you may well spot various beasts around the place during your stay. Red kites frequently circle overhead and you may hear a woodpecker tapping in the trees on a summer day. To see more of the locals, take a walk over to the nearby Long Mynd, where wild ponies roam. That’s just one of the places you could visit for a day out nearby – there’s also plenty to explore around Ludlow or with trips to the likes of Stokesay Castle and Acton Scott Historic Working Farm. The local towns of Church Stretton and Craven Arms are both less than 10 minutes away by car for cafés, pubs and shops. Even closer is the village of Marshbrook – it's about five minutes' walk away and has a pub, a bike hire place and a café that does a very fine cooked breakfast.

Een eenvoudige, milieuvriendelijke camping met prachtige uitzichten over de Shropshire Hills. Rustige sfeer, schone maar basic faciliteiten (compostoilet, één douche). Vriendelijke hosts. Ideaal voor wandelaars en wie van wildkamperen houdt. Toegang kan lastig zijn bij nat weer.

Ik was blij met Very quiet, lots of space to yourself and nice little walk.
Shower and toilets were great. Shower was a short walk away down the hill and across the brook but was clean.
We greeted by the owner of the space and she was really helpful and lovely too!

Ik was blij met Friendly check in. Pitch up wherever you want. Facilities are very basic! My first impression of the shower wasn’t the best, felt a little “too outside” but the water was super hot and it was surprisingly a nice shower experience. There was no WiFi but I had a strong phone signal.

Ik was blij met Incredible views, basic but clean and functional facilities, relaxed and friendly. Good local pub only 5 mins walk, and local bus to the lovely Church Stretton only takes 10-15 mins. Great walks in the Shropshire Hills straight off the site. Cute goats to pet too!

Ik was blij met Beautiful views, very relaxed, hot free shower, cute goats, great walks

Ik was niet blij met Only one shower, a bit of a walk away, closest pub was a bit meh, compost loos were smelly

Ik was blij met This was an amazing site with extremely pleasant and helpful owners. Very large space so plenty of room for peace and quiet. It wouldn’t suit everyone as it is close to wild camping and facilities are far from luxurious but kept clean and tidy. Lots of walking nearby as well as pubs and other facilities. Loved it.

We will be back

Ik was blij met The campsite was extremely peaceful and all amenities were kept cleaned and were nice. The campsite is located right next to a bus stop which allows you to get to near towns overall it was a lovely campsite with nice owners wld go back

Might you possibly have come to this area for a walk or few? It’s a very fine choice, as the Shropshire Hills are renowned for their hiking potential. Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd are the most well-known spots (and you can walk to the Long Mynd in 10 minutes or so), but there’s plenty more out there too. A good place to start for ideas is in Craven Arms (10 minutes’ drive), where you can drop in on the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre. While you’re there, take a look at Stokesay Castle as well, and browse through the collections at the Land of Lost Content museum. For other days out, you can rent bikes in the local village or head to Church Stretton (10 minutes) for a round of golf or a dip in Carding Mill Reservoir. Acton Scott Historic Working Farm (five minutes) is a good pick for a kid-friendly day out; meanwhile, Ludlow (20 minutes) is an appealing prospect for grownups, with its independent food shops and restaurants making particularly tasty options.
