Alternatively, set out on foot along the Circular Route No 31 – Holt to Mannington Walk, which runs alongside the camping field. A favourite local day out is to Blakeney Point (15 minutes’ drive or 50 minutes’ cycle), where you can see the grey seal colony and breeding birds in summer and take strolls along the dunes. They’re not short on history hereabouts either. Baconsthorpe Castle (15 minutes’ walk) is the spot to start your heritage tour – there’s a photogenic ruin that kids can scramble over as well as some pretty corners for family picnics. The stately National Trust-owned piles of Blickling Hall (20 minutes’ drive, birthplace of Anne Boleyn) and National Trust - Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate (15 minutes, Jacobean mansion) might be on your agenda too. The beautiful Georgian town of Holt (10 minutes) is crammed with antique shops and art galleries if you fancy splashing some cash – and if you’d like to feel a sea breeze in your hair, Sheringham (15 minutes) has a promenade, a sandy beach and old-fashioned amusements arcades.
