A aimé The atmosphere on this site was lovely! Just super chill, family-friendly, staff were visible and friendly, and there was a lovely central spot where you can grab food and drink.
N'a pas aimé Unfortunately, the public footpath isn’t safe to walk through with a bull on the field. I got stuck behind a very flimsy boundary with it sniffing at my feet, which was quite frightening. There are warning signs, but I was told we could cross through, however, it’s definitely not worth the wander.

A aimé The site was spacious, accessible and really quiet! Toilet blocks were fine and everything felt really secure. There were lots of surrounding fields with little ponds about which was lovely for our children.
N'a pas aimé Upon arrival, the owner asked my husband to avoid using the electricity (which we paid £10 extra for!) for our heater and insisted we used our own gas for heating instead. We have probably stayed at more than 50 sites over the years and never have we been asked to do this. So despite the site being pleasant enough, we wouldn’t stay again for this reason, and we knocked a few stars off as it was just a bit cheeky really.

Réponse du gestionnaire : Thank you for you review. I asked would it be possible for you to use gas for your heating, as our electrics are being upgraded. Our pitch prices are £20 with electric and £15 without, so you only paid £5 for the electric.I am sorry to hear you will not be returning, take care

A aimé Lots of space, beautiful views, clean and private toilets/showers, and a very welcoming site owner upon arrival (thank you!). We saw lots of birds too, including several birds of prey. We loved our fresh eggs for breakfast; they were delicious! However, we owe you 30p - we’d seen the sign by the shower block and hadn’t realised the new price when we picked up the box (I only noticed it when we returned it!), sorry.

A aimé Facilities were stunning - like luxury! And so clean too. Lots of great little touches with the things provided in both the kitchen and shower blocks. We were welcomed by the owner Tom, who showed us around this beautiful site and there were fire pits to hire for free, logs to purchase for a small fee.

A aimé Everything! The site was beautiful and very well maintained. Facilities were all very clean and spacious, playgrounds were fab for the kids, the little beaches were just stunning! And the evening entertainment/sports bar was great too - honestly loved this place and so glad we booked it - hubby is trying to convince me to buy a static here!!

A aimé The views were lovely and the facilities were very clean! Katie was really welcoming when we arrived too. The site is 5 minutes’ drive to Largs which is a beautiful little town to visit!
N'a pas aimé There’s a 60mph road separating the hardstanding pitches and the rest of the site, with no gates or barriers - absolute no-go for us with little ones in tow. There was lots of dog poo along the walkers’ path which we suspected may have been from the site owners’ dogs as we saw someone ride off on a farm quad with 4 dogs following behind (no leads) right down the path and then return 5 minutes later with no poo bags! Possible coincidence, but nevertheless, watch your step if you’re off on a walk!
Also, we knocked at reception 3 times (to ask if the children could collect eggs) and nobody answered. When we found a member of staff later on, she said the hens hadn’t been laying for months, so maybe an update on pitchup needed.

A aimé Everything! The pitches are off the back of a working farm, which was very authentic and well-run. The farmer very kindly gave us a tour and let our children hold a lamb! The animals were very well cared for, too. The pitches themselves were a little hilly(!), but not an issue once parked up. The views were stunning!! So peaceful and remote. There was a little Wendy house and lots of little toys for our children to play with - they were delighted! The farmers’ pets (cats and a sheep dog) were very friendly, and roam freely on the farm, which we loved! But just an FYI as it’s not everybody’s cup of tea.
N'a pas aimé There was a fair bit of cat/dog poo on the grassy parts of the pitches. Our children spotted it and dodged, but just not ideal for lots of reasons.

Réponse du gestionnaire : Sorry about the poo. I do walk around the site to try and ensure none is around. Hopefully now I'm turning over the garden our cats will appreciate the easy digging and not leave evidence in the glamping paddock. Our dog usually goes in a private place in the farmyard in the morning so it may not have been her. I do allow guests to bring their dogs and expect that they pick up after them, even supplying dog poo bags in the shower-block. I will be more vigilant in future.

A aimé Peaceful, lovely views and clean shower blocks.
N'a pas aimé There was nowhere to check-in so to speak; no one came around to give any info/welcome us. Some people would prefer that, but we wanted to go on some walks and it was unclear which land we were allowed to cut across (farmers’ fields etc) so it wouldn’t have gone amiss.

A aimé Beautiful site and surroundings! Toilets/shower block was very modern, clean and warm. There were lots of quaint carved woodland creatures about, and plenty of real wildlife too!
N'a pas aimé We were hoping to see some deer in the surrounding forests given the many statues of deer around the site. Not sure if we were unlucky or if there just aren’t in the area though.

A aimé Stunning location - feels totally remote! We loved the authentic, natural, off-grid feel of the campsite; it’s simplistic yet meets all your needs! The communal wash room has a fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave which was great, and the water from the shower/sink was lovely and hot. We spotted lots of deer (literally just next to where we were parked up), and some owls/birds of prey, too - such a bonus! There aren’t “activities” for little ones to do as such, but it’s just not that type of site; they’ll love the surroundings and make their own fun with sticks and mud!
N'a pas aimé The fact that we only booked one night - we would’ve loved to have stayed!

A aimé The owners on this site were particularly helpful: when we arrived, the grass was a bit longer than we'd have preferred, and when my boyfriend went to the reception to tell the owners, they came straight over with the lawnmower! Problem solved 😊 Upon leaving, one of the owners kindly took our rubbish for us, which I thought was a lovely touch - really sweet, thank you! The views were beautiful and despite the regular trains nearby, it was really peaceful.
N'a pas aimé Nothing to complain about! Yes, the toilets were occasionally low on toilet roll, but it wasn't an issue to be honest; the owners were so helpful and always available anyway.

A aimé The field was large and clean, as were the toilet/shower blocks. Usually, sites this cheap are often packed with tents; however, for the price, we had lots of privacy and space between each pitch. The scenery was beautiful: surrounding fields had friendly horses, and the area was so tranquil, particularly in the evening.
N'a pas aimé The website states that the park is dog-friendly; however, in my opinion, there was nothing dog-friendly about it. To be specific, I have seen a lot of review responses from the owner (Graham), who insists that their rules and regulations are the same as any standard and well-respected camping/caravan park; however, every dog-friendly caravan park we have been to, has a facility for dogs to go and do their business: usually, a dog-walking field, on which children are not permitted, so to allow for good hygienic/h&s. Penisar Mynydd specifically states that dogs are not allowed to foul anywhere on the caravan park's grounds (presumably, they must be walked along the road). Given that we paid an extra £2 to bring our dog, I would have thought that this facility would have been available here too, and for this reason, I am not sure what service the fee covered.
In addition to this, we were annoyed by the park owners' dog(s), as it was barking outside until around midnight. My boyfriend actually knocked at the owners' home to request they control the noise levels of the dog(s), but, despite having seen a TV on through the window, there was no answer. Furthermore, we proceeded to call Graham on the mobile number provided to us, but this was also unsuccessful. We were quite shocked at this and consequently, were dissatisfied with the overall service. Such a same, as the park is actually very visually pleasant.

Réponse du gestionnaire : First of all may I thank you for your review on the park and I take all comments seriously and try to improve. It is the responsibility of the dog owners not to allow their dogs to foul anywhere on the park and if they do it must be cleaned up immediately, which is generally the case. Unfortunately, occasionally people decide upon themselves to allow their dogs to exercise ,all be it on leads, and use the camp field as a place for their dogs to foul. We would not encourage this under any circumstances as the dog exercising is a short walk from the park. Unfortunately myself and the staff are not able to police this 100%. If myself or staff were to stand at the gate of the tent field 24 hours a day then we would get people leaving reviews saying we were hounding them. Therefore all I can add is that IT IS THE RESPONSILITY OF ALL DOG OWNERS TO LEAVE THE PARK WHILST EXERCISING THEIR DOGS. Of course dogs will foul the park around their caravans and tents which can not be helped and is always in my opinion cleaned up. It would be foolish to expect this not to happen. I also feel that good campers experiencing problems off people allowing their dogs to exercise their dogs in the tent field should speak to the dog owners themselves about this and I am sure that any self respecting dog owner would then begin to exercise their dog off the park. Anybody experiencing problems of this kind should contact me or a member of staff immediately.
