Get right back to basics at River Leam Wild Camping, a quiet family campsite in the Warwickshire village of Hunningham, where you can pick your own pitch alongside the water. There’s heaps of space to choose from around the six-acre meadow, so you can be as sociable with fellow campers or as private as you want. Soak up the sounds of nature, enjoy a leisurely riverside walk, go for a paddle or cast a few lines in the river… but sooner or later you’ll probably find yourselves heading for the gastropub next door to sample great British food at its best. There are several other good country pubs nearby too, or you could scoot into Royal Leamington Spa (10 minutes’ drive) for more places to eat and drink. If you’d rather go down the self-sufficiency route, barbecues are allowed on the camping field, as long as they are off the ground and do not burn the grass. You can bring one from home or rent at the site – kindling is available to buy too. And this being a no-frills sort of place, please note electric hookups and showers are not provided. However, there is access to limited toilet facilities at the pub next door.
