Blankaholm and its Old Town are 300 metres from Blankaholms Naturcamping and the Blankaviken Nature Reserve is in the surroundings.
Västervik, the biggest town in the site's Västervik municipality, is half an hour's drive north at the mouth of the Tjust archipelago. Catch the ferry to the spectacular UNESCO-listed town of Visby from here, or stick around in town to have a natter with the folk at the sailing club or to play golf on the nine- or 18-hole courses.
Motor fans should scoot along to the Hjorted Moped Museum 20 minutes' drive away at Hjorted, and animal enthusiasts can snap pics of the inhabitants at the Virum elk park half an hour to the west. Under an hour's drive will land you at the bookish land of Astrid Lindgren's World, in the writer's native city of Vimmerby.
