- Direct access to Troenzo's fine white sandy beach
- Among spectacular scenery 6km from Llanes and 20 from Ribadesella
- Restaurant with tapas, bar with terrace, playground and shop
Sí, there's 'beach' in the name. And Troenzo. And appropriately so for both, as Playa De Troenzo – between Celorio and Barro in Spain's eastern Asturias region – has direct access to the white sands of Troenzo, with diving, surfing and fishing all within simple reach of your fins, board or rod.
The Costa Verde beaches of Borizu, Barro and Toranda are also within your sand-seeking reach as is the naturist beach of Torimbia for those who have a horror of tan lines while on a Spanish seaside hol. For town sightseeing and local cuisine sampling, the fishing port, restaurant and shops of Llanes are 10 minutes' drive away, and the seaside town of Ribadesella is within half an hour. Santander and Gijon are both within an hour's drive.
Playa De Troenzo is a handsome site made up of natural stone and surrounded with thick Mediterranean vegetation, a few minutes' drive or about 15 minutes' walk from Celorio. Eats and drinks can be accessed at the site restaurant with daily menu and tapas (and takeaway if you care to carry dinner back to your pitch); after that, a recommended option is to settle down on the spacious terrace of the bar for a cocktail.
The bar also serves breakfast, another highly recommended course of action if your day's itinerary involves leaping up mountains, and you can pick up basic bits and pieces including fresh local produce at the mini market. Have alfresco eats at the picnic tables in the communal area: once you see the beach views from this spot, you'll likely think an evening picnic is a highly recommended thing to do here too…

Local attractions
Lovely little Llanes, less than 10 minutes' drive away, is a colourful fishing port long famed for its folk traditions and its fiestas, and once home to 65 Spanish Armada sailors in days of yore.
The town's also known for its busy harbour, lively summer vibe, traditional restaurants and summer evenings around the zona de copas. Three spectacular beaches are also in town if you're inclining more towards idling; the clifftop walk and smashing views of the Paseo de San Pedro await too if you seek a few more top photography spots.
And then on to Ribadesella, set among splendid scenery on the Cantabrian Sea and the outlet of the Sella river, and forming part of the mighty Picos de Europa. The town's also famed for the prehistoric caves of Tito Bustillo and their elaborate wall paintings dating back around 40,000 years; the paintings are among the most complete set of prehistoric wall art in the north of Spain, making the caves a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
