- Scenic site amid the mountains of Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park
- A 10-minute walk from Gósol and the start of a trail up to Pedraforca
- Pools, bar, spa, eateries, games room, climbing wall and playgrounds
Like the sound of watching the sun set over the mountains with a glass of vino in hand? Then settle in for a stay 1,400 metres above sea level at Camping Cadí Vacances – in the foothills of the Pyrenees, this sky-high Catalan site is handily located a 10-minute walk from the small town of Gósol.
Families, couples and groups of friends will find a warm welcome around this laidback park, which is splendidly set for days exploring the forests and mountains of the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. Mountain-biking and 4x4 trails crisscross the hills if you're looking to zip around, but Camping Cadí Vacances is a hub for hikers too: this Lérida site is a 10-minute walk from the trail leading from Gósol to the lofty peak of Pedraforca. If this 2,506-metre mountain isn't enough for guests with itchy feet, the spectacular Cap del Verd's pine-scented forests should do the trick (20 minutes' drive).
Back at base there are pools and a sauna on hand for a post-trek treat, and you can book yourself in for a massage if you need a proper pamper. Dinners are a cinch thanks to the on-site bar and restaurant, but guests can bring a barbecue too (supplies can be picked up in Gósol). The site also has sports courts, a bouldering wall, a playground and a games room. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Local attractions
The pretty town of Gósol is a 10-minute walk from the site; most heading here are Pedraforca-bound, but those who linger can also visit the castle, several restaurants and a museum dedicated to Picasso. A nifty local bus also stops in the town, allowing visitors to reach other nearby attractions (such as Saldes, home to another medieval castle) without needing to drive.
Outdoor adventure can be found at Cap de la Gallina Pelada hiking area (15 minutes' drive) or at Cap del Verd (20 minutes). The spectacular rock formation and trail at Pont Cabradís are also well worth the trip (20 minutes).
Further afield, the microstate of Andorra is around an hour and a half away. Its capital, Andorra la Vella, is home to art, architecture and a historic canal trail.
