Between the mountains of the Pyrenees and the sandy beaches of the Costa Brava… this setting just screams Spanish serenity. La Soleia d'Oix is a small family-run park in the Alta Garrotxa region of Catalonia, an area filled with nature, wildlife, birdwatching, deep valleys and high high peaks – and surely this says hiking and nature spotting too…? La Soleia d'Oix has free wifi, bike hire, a seasonal swimming pool and a restaurant/pizzeria with a strong focus on sourcing and dishing up fresh local produce. This is also a family-friendly place and has a playground for small guests as well as an on-site nursery – that screams Spanish serenity too.

Liked: Cámping familiar, no muy grande pero con instalaciones suficientes. Pasé 4 días con mi hermano y en todo momento estuvimos muy agusto. Tienen barbacoas al servicio de los huéspedes. Hicimos reserva de nevera, pensando que sería una pequeña similar a la de los hoteles, para nuestra sorpresa era bastante grande y disponía de congelador. Las parcelas son grandes y cómodas, delimitadas por árboles, por lo que facilita el poder poner cuerda para colgar toallas o hamacas.

Disliked: Que no incluya una tienda auxiliar en la reserva de parcela. Eché en falta jabón de manos en los baños.

Liked: Estaba bien, amplia y cerca de los servicios. Todo estaba limpio y bien mantenido

Disliked: No tenía nada de sombra nuestra parcela. En agosto se hace difícil la estancia durante el día por el clima.

Liked: Amazing location up in the mountains. Plenty of showers and very clean. Friendly people running it. Swimming pool is really deep at o e end so fun for the kids jumping in etc. Table tennis tables in doors which was great for the kids. Olot is a great place to visit and climb the volcano!

Disliked: 30 minutes down the mountain to get anywhere which we don't m8nd but some people might not like.

Liked: El entorno es expectacular y todo lo demás estaba genial.

Disliked: En general todas tenían bastante sobra, pero a la nuestra le faltaba más sobra porqué por la mañana pronto hacía calor (era agosto).

Liked: El trato del personal, las instalaciones bien cuidadas y el entorno idílico que te permite hacer unas espectaculares rutas de senderismo.

Disliked: Quizás le falta un poco de temperatura al agua de las duchas cuando hace frío, quitando eso, sin queja alguna.

Local attractions

The most magnif Alta Garrotxa area halfway between the mountains and the sea is popular Spainwide for its activities and landscapes: here you'll find gorges slashed into rock, the volcanic zone Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa with over 40 cones, parts filled with forest, steep mountains and long cliffs along with old Catalonian villages and ancient archaeological sites. Head here for climbing, mountain biking, hiking and horse riding, or don binoculars and go birdwatching around the valley of the River Fluvià. You could also try wafting over the region in a hot-air balloon, a most magnif way to see this scenery from a peaceful place. A short drive from La Soleia d'Oix are the old fishing port of Roses, a lot to see in Garrotxa capital Olot, and the Cap de Creus town of Cadaqués, holiday home of oddball artist Salvador Dali.
