  • Peaceful and scenic site for hikers and families
  • Outdoor pool, barbecue and café bar
  • 12km from La Alberca and Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park
Have much time hiking – these are surely the surroundings for it. Then have some/much time resting your tired legs and feets at Camping Las Cavenes, a peaceful and quiet site for hikers and families in the famed walking region of La Alberca. As most walkers worth their salt will know, these mountainous parts of the Castile and Leon region and the Salamanca province are top picks for Spanish hiking: La Alberca 12 kilometres away is a top starting point for hikes off into the mountains and around old religious sites and traditional villages – possibly (surely) with a picnic made mostly up of famed Alberca ham. The site is also on the edge of the Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park, where hikes of all sorts meander around too. Las Cavenes is a peaceful site to aid peaceful days in among all the hiking, in a tree-lined and mightily pretty setting (do see pics...). It has a pool for swims or waterside sunbathing, a play area to aid restful grownup times, and sports areas for football, basketball and miniature golf. There are also top little touches like gardens and plants all around, loads of room for gentle ambles, and a games table with boards carved into ancient stone. A café bar is on site too, dishing up eats and drinks to suit all sizes of guest.

Local attractions

Nearby La Alberca is an absolute must for its sightseeing as well as the hikes leading into the mountains from all around it: settled before Roman times, the place is crammed with so many churches, old buildings and religious architecture that it was the first in Spain to be given National Historic Monument Status. Heritage seekers should also get along to spectacular Salamanca (55 minutes' drive), the ancient Celtic settlement that's now a student town (with a lively vibe if you're aiming to stay on into the evening for a drink). Sights to see include the UNESCO World Heritage Site Old City, the Plaza Mayor and the city hall; make sure at this last to drop into Café Novelty too, the oldest coffee shop in the city and famed for decades as a haunt for writers and artists. If you're sticking to strolling rather than sightseeing on your hol, have wanders around the Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park too: the area covers a UNESCO biosphere reserve where wildlife watchers can spot species from mountain goats to wild boar, and black storks to ibexes. Staff at Las Cavenes can arrange three-day mountain training sessions on request, to prep you properly for hiking among the peaks.
