  • Peaceful site in the 900-hectare Amsterdam Forest
  • Half an hour from Amsterdam city centre by bike: cycle hire on site
  • Very close public transport links for Amsterdam and Schiphol airport
An Amsterdam break… but without the noise, crowds and expense that come with city centre stays? If that sounds like quite the combo, take a look at EuroParcs Het Amsterdamse Bos, a peaceful North Holland site surrounded by woodland, canals and open spaces in the 900-hectare Amsterdam Forest, 10 minutes’ drive from Amstelveen. Although you might not guess it from the gorgeous green surrounds (which lend themselves well to strolls, swims, bike rides and canoe trips), the site is just eight kilometres from Amsterdam’s city centre. Arguably the best way to get there (and to blend in with the locals) is to hire bikes on site and pedal off along a cycle lane through the Vondelpark to the city’s central attractions in around half an hour or so. For those who prefer to save their muscle power for meandering around museums, it’s also easy to ride into the centre via public transport – a bus stop is just outside the site, and there’s a metro station within walking distance as well. Handily, there’s also a direct bus to Schiphol airport (around 20 minutes away) for easy getaways by air or connecting with trains to other Dutch cities. And there’s no need to put an early curfew on proceedings either – night owls can party in town until late, as public transport runs through to the small hours. Back at base, lots of essential facilities are sorted, including a shop, a launderette and a self-catering kitchen with dining room; there’s also a spacious bathroom block with plenty of toilets and showers.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch (large, waterside, maximum 8 metres)

Liked Yes I loved my stay at Amsterdams Boo. It was uncomplicated and the location is fantastic. The staff at the reception were down to earth and friendly. My stay was smooth easygoing, just as it should be! I would recommend to anyone who likes the camper way of life.

Electric grass touring caravan or trailer tent pitch (comfort)

Liked A lovely quiet site. We had a comfort pitch an it was huge. Good free WiFi was available at the pitch. Plenty of showers and toilets which were always clean, and well stocked with toilet paper and soap. There's a machine for buying a travel pass for buses and trams which was really useful. We had burger meals from the fast food kiosk, great portions sizes and really tasty.

Synd at en så fin plass skal ødelegges av festbråk.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch (large, waterside, maximum 8 metres)

Liked Nydelig plass. Perfekt for bobil. Avstanden til Amsterdam by var i sykkelavstand. 35 min.

Disliked Store hytter som huser ungdommer på plassen. Umulig å få sove for oss som lå i bobil.
Tydeligvis lar ledelsen for plassen dette være ok.
Masse bråk om natten med festing.
Kommer ikke tilbake.

Will stay there again in Comfort Connect instead of Forest Lodge 4

Forest Lodge 1 bedroom cottage / chalet / bungalow (four person)

Liked Helpful staff and well appointed forest cabin. For visitors of our age the bed on the floor was difficult to get up from but very comfortable when on the bed. The shower block was clean and 4 minutes free shower was plenty of time. We cycled in the nearby forest and along the Amstel river on well planned cycle paths.

Disliked Low bed and the bus to Amsterdam was not quite as easy as the main site information read. In the on site information sheet we found that you had to catch two busses to the airport then a train into Amsterdam. We decided that it would be far more convenient to travel by Uber, 23 Euros each way with pick up and drop off at the camp gate.

Electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice relaxed atmosphere, perfect for families. Clean, warm toilets with nice hot showers. Dedicated kids areas including a playground, trampoline and ping pong table. Great location with access to endless walking and cycle paths in the woods.

Disliked Got very busy over the weekend, the pitches are a bit small and get very crowded. Was hard to manuevre safely with the caravan. For such a large site, could have better facilities such as a cafe open all day. The pizza vending machine was out of pizza all week.

Good for location but not much else

Electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Convenient location

Disliked Pitches very very close together, shop not open past 5pm in the week. Someone was allowed in and pitch their tent at 3am! Woke me, my husband and my children up and then they pitched literally with their tent touching my car!

Local attractions

Amsterdam – where to start? Well, depending on your interests, there’s (deep breath…) the Rijksmuseum, the Rembrandt Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Anne Frank House, the Heineken Experience, canal boat trips, Amsterdam Zoo, the houseboat museum – plus of course stacks of cafés, bars and clubs… best be planning several days (and nights) to take it all in. As enticing as it is, Amsterdam’s not the only attraction around these parts. Those seeking to tick off classic Dutch sights should aim for the Aalsmeer flower auction (10 minutes’ drive), snap windmill pics in Zaanse Schans (15 minutes) and take a tasty trip to the Alkmaar cheese market (35 minutes). If it’s time for a few breaths of sea air, venture to the fishing village of Volendam (35 minutes) to eat by the harbour while locals wander about in traditional dress, or head west to Zandvoort (25 minutes) for beach days, strolls in the sand dunes or watersports including paddleboarding and kitesurfing.
