  • Peaceful site in the 900-hectare Amsterdam Forest
  • Half an hour from Amsterdam city centre by bike: cycle hire on site
  • Very close public transport links for Amsterdam and Schiphol airport
An Amsterdam break… but without the noise, crowds and expense that come with city centre stays? If that sounds like quite the combo, take a look at EuroParcs Het Amsterdamse Bos, a peaceful North Holland site surrounded by woodland, canals and open spaces in the 900-hectare Amsterdam Forest, 10 minutes’ drive from Amstelveen. Although you might not guess it from the gorgeous green surrounds (which lend themselves well to strolls, swims, bike rides and canoe trips), the site is just eight kilometres from Amsterdam’s city centre. Arguably the best way to get there (and to blend in with the locals) is to hire bikes on site and pedal off along a cycle lane through the Vondelpark to the city’s central attractions in around half an hour or so. For those who prefer to save their muscle power for meandering around museums, it’s also easy to ride into the centre via public transport – a bus stop is just outside the site, and there’s a metro station within walking distance as well. Handily, there’s also a direct bus to Schiphol airport (around 20 minutes away) for easy getaways by air or connecting with trains to other Dutch cities. And there’s no need to put an early curfew on proceedings either – night owls can party in town until late, as public transport runs through to the small hours. Back at base, lots of essential facilities are sorted, including a shop, a launderette and a self-catering kitchen with dining room; there’s also a spacious bathroom block with plenty of toilets and showers.

Electric grass touring caravan or trailer tent pitch (comfort)

Liked: Location was good although 50 minutes to get into Amsterdam by public transport. Laundry was only €4.50. Shop was good.

Disliked: Pitchup told us to inform the site 24 hours before arrival time if we were arriving after 8 pm. Following two emails and numerous phone calls we finally telephoned the central number for EuroParcs and waited for 1.5 hours for someone to answer the phone only to be told that an email will be sent to us with instructions on how to enter and what pitch number we were on. we would not have wasted our time if Euro Parks website or pitch up noted that an email would be sent if we were late. When we arrived, we were given the darkest and dampest pitch on the site facing north Beside a busy road. Thankfully the following morning we requested a different pitch which was much better. Toilet facilities were okay. Reception is closed at lunchtime and sometimes after 4 pm Located next to shiphol airport

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great location with easy transport links to Amsterdam, Zaanse schans and Haarlem. Showers, bathrooms and washing up facilities are modern, plentyful and clean. Site in the centre of a wonderful woodland, full of wildlife, beautiful!

Disliked: Noise from roads nearby can always be heard, We were given a very small pitch for our tent size and couldn't park our car on it. Booking in was abit convoluted for a tent pitch as site isn't staffed after 7pm. However all in all would not hesitate to book again, happy with our stay!

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: My son and I came to Holland for the F1 grand prix. This site was perfect for the park and ride busses from Amstelveen to the circuit. Also just a 20-30 minute journey into Amsterdam. The staff were pleasant and friendly, the on site facilities (toilets, showers etc.) were very good. If I go to Zandvoort again this would definitely be my first choice of places to stay.

Disliked: Only minor dislike is it is very close to Schiphol airport so can be quite noisy with planes frequently taking off till quite late at night, hence only 3 stars for the location. (It's not that bad though, and you soon get used to it 🙂)

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch (large, waterside, maximum 8 metres)

(Platz 142)

Local attractions

Amsterdam – where to start? Well, depending on your interests, there’s (deep breath…) the Rijksmuseum, the Rembrandt Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Anne Frank House, the Heineken Experience, canal boat trips, Amsterdam Zoo, the houseboat museum – plus of course stacks of cafés, bars and clubs… best be planning several days (and nights) to take it all in. As enticing as it is, Amsterdam’s not the only attraction around these parts. Those seeking to tick off classic Dutch sights should aim for the Aalsmeer flower auction (10 minutes’ drive), snap windmill pics in Zaanse Schans (15 minutes) and take a tasty trip to the Alkmaar cheese market (35 minutes). If it’s time for a few breaths of sea air, venture to the fishing village of Volendam (35 minutes) to eat by the harbour while locals wander about in traditional dress, or head west to Zandvoort (25 minutes) for beach days, strolls in the sand dunes or watersports including paddleboarding and kitesurfing.
