  • Scenic site on the German border and next to a vast, old oak forest
  • A five-minute drive from De Lutte and 15 minutes from Losser
  • Games room with pool table, foot golf course and cycle hire
Taking a trip to the Twente region in the hopes of navigating its nature reserves, farmland and country estates? Sort a spot at the family-friendly Camping De Bergboer and you can spend days roaming the old oak forest right next door to the site as well. This playfully decorated park a five-minute drive from the amenities of De Lutte is also within walking distance of the Dinkel, whether you’re keen to add river roams into your break or simply want to paddle in the water and indulge in a spot of fishing. Stunning cycle trails leave from the site too: there’s a boundary stone path that runs along the border with Germany and an old smugglers’ route heading towards Losser (15 minutes’ drive) and Overdinkel (20 minutes). Bikes are available to rent on base if you’ve not brought your own along on the break. Guests are also able to stay active on site as there’s ample space in the grounds alongside a landscaped 2.5-acre foot golf course (available to hire for an extra fee if you’re travelling with a large group). For indoor amusement, there’s a games room set up with a pool table and table football. Off base around Overijssel, there are many more forests, hills and sand drifts to tour, plus castles and wild swimming holes to check out as well; for sporty things to do, Losser (15 minutes) has a swimming pool and multifunctional sports complex football fields, an athletics track and a skating rink.

Local attractions

The site is in natural surrounds made up of heathlands, sand rifts and woods, so it’s fab for an outdoorsy hol. Amble around the Arboretum Poort Bulten (five minutes’ drive), wander the Het Lutterzand nature reserve (10 minutes) or go birdwatching at De Oelemars (15 minutes). You could also get a glimpse of the traditional villages of De Lutte, Overdinkel and Glane (20 minutes or less), all of which are centred around a church as is typical of the area. Music, sports and festive celebrations are regularly organised in each of these settlements – ask at the park to see if there’s an occasion coinciding with your hol. Around the village are several fantastically preserved cultural heritage sites, including the Brickworks the Werklust stone factory, the old Staringgroeve park and the historical buildings at Erve Kraesgenberg (all within 15 minutes). More culture is to be had at the open-air Brilmansdennen theatre (10 minutes) and in the thermal brine and sulphur spa town of Bad Bentheim (15 minutes), home to a sand quarry and a handsome castle with a public museum.
