Good things come in petite packages in Luxembourg (perhaps not surprising given the country’s pint-sized proportions). And one of those good things is the Mullerthal, also known as Little Switzerland – a peaceful place that’s a haven for walkers, cyclists and generally outdoorsy types who hike through the hills and roam along the rivers. On the banks of one of those rivers, the Sûre, and in the village of Dillingen is where you’ll find family-friendly Camping Wies-Neu. From here it’s an easy ride to the walking and cycle paths that network the region, and it’s even easier to launch a canoe out on to the river, cast your rod out in search of fish or just plonk yourself onto an inflatable and float gently down the river. If you’ve brought your small fry along, there’s a playground to keep them busy, and an entertainment team who keep the place gently abuzz with a hum of activity, including crafts, volleyball matches and table tennis tournaments by day and bingo or karaoke after hours. There’s also a popular church service held on site every Sunday morning. Any immediate nibbling needs can be taken care of at the site’s snack bar, with the shop also on hand to provide all sorts of useful bits and bobs from breakfast bread rolls to beers to accompany your evening barbecue.

Lovely, tranquil riverside spot with big, level pitches. Friendly staff are a winner. Ablutions generally clean, though Wi-Fi and shower costs niggle some. Shop's small, cash needed. Still, great value & chill vibes. Good base for exploring.

Liked Lovely situation in the river. Shady and sunny pitches. Could order bread etc for the morning. Showers etc clean, tokens for the shower, just enough time to wash and condition my long hair! Two restaurants in the village.

Liked Lovely site next to the river, good sized pitches and enough ampage, 10 ?, to run everything. Just up the road from Echternach and 35 mins to Luxembourg City.

Liked The relaxed atmosphere you chose your pitch plugged in and relaxed.then in the evening paid. I loved the location by the river big pitches. A small shop but bread and cossaints could be ordered for the next morning. A good restaurant across the main road a couple hundred yards from the site. The toilets were spotless and usable.

Disliked Nothing to dislike only difficult thing was getting rid of motorhome grey water.

Liked De plek op de camping, we zaten heel kort op de Sauer waardoor je het rustgevend geluid van het water hoorde. Verder was alles schoon en netjes.
Pluspunt voor ons was dat de campingbeheerder ook Nederlands sprak.

Disliked Er is een winkeltje aan de camping waar je alleen contant kan betalen. 5km verderop in het dorp zou je eventueel kunnen pinnen
Verder zaten wij redelijk dichtbij het hoofdgebouw maar toch was de wifi niet goed en verbrak de verbinding steeds.

Local attractions

Pottering, pedalling and paddling are all popular picks around these parts. Hardcore hikers might want to tackle the 112-kilometre Mullerthal Trail (or part of it), while cyclists in Little Switzerland have the choice of four mountain bike routes and a more placid selection of (mainly flat) national cycle routes to take them out through the wildflower meadows. For aquatic antics, there’s a canoe and kayak rental place five minutes’ walk from the site; a popular route is the 12-kilometre paddle along the Sûre river to Echternach. Meanwhile, treetop trails for adults and kids are at the Indian Forest in Vianden, 20 minutes' drive, and you can chill down afterwards with a swim in the pool over in Beaufort, five minutes from the site. Venture up to Vianden for the day (20 minutes away) to take the chairlift up to the castle and then stroll on down to the Victor Hugo House or the cartoon museum. Castle collectors should also pay a visit to the châteaux in Beaufort (10 minutes away) and Larochette (20 minutes).
