Drop in to Donnalucata (10 minutes' drive) for fresh seafood and artisan ice cream, then swing north towards the UNESCO-registered town of Scicli (15 minutes) to take in the views from an eye-catching setting surrounded by churches and monasteries sat on towering crags. Once you've checked out the intricately carved faces on the palace of Palazzo Beneventano, near the pretty Piazza Italia, go on to other Sicilian towns known for their baroque architecture. A good place to start is Modica (30 minutes), for trips to the Cathedral of St. George and the chocolate museum, where you can dig into the area's history of making the sweet stuff. At around 40 minutes’ drive, Ragusa’s a little further away but well worth the visit – stick this town on your to-do list for its hilltop setting and strolls to see the handsome stained-glass windows of the Duomo di San Giorgio. For memorable views, take a wander in the elevated Giardino Ibleo public park dotted with churches and fountains as well.
