- Wooden chalets in the village of Passy, with great mountain views
- Half an hour from Mont Blanc and the Aiguille du Midi cable car
- Lounge, dining room and fully-equipped kitchen in each chalet
Wow. Just wow. There are many adjectives one could use to describe the mountain views around this area, but it’s likely that even the more erudite souls among you may well be reduced to mere noises upon arrival at Les Greniers du Mont-Blanc.
Mont Blanc itself (the highest peak in the Alps) is 25 kilometres away, but you can see all the way over there on a clear day, and at any time there’s a pretty wow-worthy view over the foothills. Chalets in this little Alpine ‘village’ have been designed to make the most of these views, with south-facing balconies looking out towards the mountains.
Owners Victoria and Alain built the site from scratch, and have constructed a clutch of characterful wooden chalets in the style of traditional Alpine huts. Each hand-built chalet has a dining room and on a chilly night you can cosy up on the sofa in the living room to watch a DVD or play games. The fully-equipped kitchen has a washing machine and dishwasher as well as all the cooking facilities you need.
Free wifi is available on site, and there’s also a playground and pétanque court for all guests to use – best in the summer but you’d be welcome to attempt a game of pétanque in the snow if you wish.
It wouldn’t be a French holiday without fresh croissants for breakfast, and you can pick yours up at one of the bakeries in Passy, just a five-minute saunter from the chalets.

Local attractions
What you get up to around here rather depends on the season.... In winter, you’re well placed for a choice of resorts: Passy Plaine-Joux, 15 minutes away, is great for kids and beginners, and Chamonix, Megève, Les Houches and Combloux are 20 minutes away. Buy a Mont Blanc Area Ski Pass to have access to nearly 1,000 kilometres of downhill pistes.
Come the summer, the mountains open up for hiking instead. Popular destinations for hikers include the Combloux Ecological Mountain Lake, where you can cool off after your walk with a swim. A fab experience is on offer at Lac de Passy, where you can sunbathe on the beach while looking up at the Alps; reach the lake within an hour’s walk.
Ultimately though, the star of the show around here has to be Mont Blanc, half an hour away. While climbing it is the preserve of only the fittest, all comers can have a ride on the Aiguille du Midi cable car; from here, ride on the Panoramic Mont Blanc cable car, a five-kilometre journey from France into Italy that's the highest cable car in the world.
