- Riverside site with direct access to a sandy beach
- A 15-minute drive from the Vallon Pont d’Arc
- Two heated outdoor pools and a large indoor hot tub
Three cheers for the relaxed and amiable vibe at family-friendly Aloha Plage, and for its splendid location right on the banks of the mighty River Ardèche. The plage in question is a sandy spread on the edge of the site, giving you handy access to a place to paddle, swim or launch your canoes in search of adventures afloat.
If river swimming’s not your bag, meander instead to one of the site’s two pools, for swimming or an aqua gym class if you’re feeling active, or pulling up a sun lounger for sunny basks if not. Volleyball, table tennis and pétanque kit are on hand should you fancy a little gentle holiday competition, or you could just race yourself at the gym (followed by a good old wallow in the hot tub...).
When feeding time rolls round, wander to the restaurant-bar to pick up a pizza to take away, or to settle on the terrace for an alfresco meal, drink or ice cream. Bread sales are here every morning, while by night the place frequently transforms into a party space for a theme night or dancing.
Doing your own cuisine? Leave the barbecue off the packing list and use one of the site’s outdoor grills to dish up dins on one of the surrounding picnic tables. A decent-sized supermarket is 10 minutes’ drive away, or you can forage for local treats in the shops, cafés and restaurants of Vallon Pont d’Arc or Ruoms, both of which are about 15 minutes’ drive from the site.

Local attractions
Activities on and around the river beckon: launch a canoe from the river beach for a gentle paddle or head down to Vallon Pont d’Arc to join guided tours or rent canoes to glide under the Pont d’Arc rock arch. Adventure companies in the town offer canyoning and climbing excursions; experienced riders, beginners and everyone in between are welcome to join horse treks along (and sometimes in) the river from a riding centre 10 minutes’ drive away.
The area’s big natural attraction is the Gorges de l’Ardèche, known by some folk as the European Grand Canyon – you can drive down to the gorges in a little over half an hour for some fab hiking and cycling in the natural park, or you can hit the water again to experience the scenery from a canoe or river raft.
Once you’ve seen the scenery from the trees and the water, take another view by heading underground at the Aven d’Orgnac caves, 40 minutes away, where you can wander through the underground chambers and learn about prehistoric life with hands-on workshops on making fire or grinding your own flour.
