  • Well-equipped family village park close to the French Riviera
  • A 20-minute drive from Saint-Aygulf beach at Fréjus
  • Four pools, waterslide, bar, restaurant, massages and hairdresser
After days in the desert, travellers are often fooled into thinking they see welcome water and shade close at hand – you’ll be just as pleased to see this oasis, but unlike theirs, it’s no mirage. It’s the spectacularly equipped Oasis Village, a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from the Var region town of Puget-sur-Argens in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Leap off that camel (or out of that car, whatever…) and dive straight into one of the four pools on site, or opt for a more stylish entry by zipping down the 35-metre waterslide and making a splash. There are sports sessions and activities for all ages in the water, and landlubbers can get their kicks on the multisports field or with pétanque, table tennis, archery and miniature golf. If it’s not a holiday without working up a sweat, there’s a fitness area with weights, cardio machines and strength-training machines. Dinner and a show might be a tastier option though, so wander along to the restaurant, grocery shop, bar or snack bar before settling in for some high-season entertainment (have a massage or visit the hairdresser beforehand if you fancy feeling fancy on evenings out). Not wanting to leave the site ever would be entirely understandable, but if cabin fever sets in then a venture out into Var won’t disappoint. It’s stunningly scenic round here, so clamber back into the car or hire a bike from reception to head off on an expedition.

Local attractions

If the pools and slides on-site aren’t providing enough distraction, no one has to travel far to take it up a notch: the coastal town of Fréjus, 15 minutes’ drive away, is a top spot for embarking on windsurfing, jetskiing and sailing adventures; it's also home to the watery kingdom of Aqualand and a stunning and sandy Mediterranean beach. Fréjus was also the first military harbour on the Roman Mediterranean coast, so spending some time poking around the archaeological museum and Roman ruins come highly recommended… before returning to the present with a day among the exotic animals at the nearby zoo. This is a stunning stretch of coastline, and one that’s especially popular with the glitterati. Increase chances of spotting celebs and get a taste of that jetset life with day trips to Nice, Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Monaco, all within roughly an hour of base, or keep coastal excursions confined to passing a day (or two) among the aquariums, Wild West Farm, Aquasplash and adventure golf of Marineland in Antibes. When the salty breeze becomes too much, turn steps inland for explores in the Préalpes d’Azur Regional National Park, where lofty trails and the stunning Verdon Gorge await.
