The Côte d’Azur – all glitz, glam and millionaires’ yachts, n’est-çe-pas? Mais non. Venture to Village Vacances Le Parc des Chênes, just outside little La Croix-Valmer, and you can sashay off to swish Saint-Tropez in half an hour or so for a bit of people-watching before returning to your peaceful hillside site to relax in the woodland surrounds and raise a glass to gorgeous views over the Baie de Cavalaire.
Can’t countenance travelling that far for beach action? No problem – the nearest sandy stretch is an easily bikeable/drivable two kilometres away. The town centre’s even closer, so you’ll be able to amble to shops, restaurant and the like in a leisurely 15 minutes or so.
Chillout time is easy to organise here – around its 15 hectares of forest the site has plenty of quiet corners to relax in. For something a bit more active, head to the central hub, where there’s a play area, sports pitches and a swimming pool overlooked by a spacious sun terrace and a bar serving up drinks and snacks to eat in or take away (excellent news for a few hours of supervising splashing sprogs).
Come along in summer and there’s more activity to fill family days with: kids’ club antics and teens’ activities run through the high season, as do sociable evening events.

Local attractions
Clearly one can’t come to the Côte d’Azur without spending a good chunk of time at the coast. Your nearest beach is five minutes’ drive away, with windsurfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and sailing lessons for folks seeking wave-based antics. Scuba diving is 10 minutes away in Cavalaire-sur-Mer for those who’d like to take a look below the surface.
Saint-Tropez, 25 minutes away, is certainly worth a saunter: the posh boutiques, glitzy galleries and yacht-filled harbour are famed but it’s also got a lovely Old Town packed with cobbled streets, markets and people playing pétanque.
Top local days out for les enfants include the rollercoasters and toddler-friendly rides at Azur Park amusement park (15 minutes’ drive), and the waterslides of Aqualand waterpark (half an hour). Those sans kids may prefer a round at the golf course 35 minutes away or a traipse through the gorgeous Mediterranean gardens 20 minutes away at Domaine du Rayol.
