Le Ranch Camping

Being in this handy spot may well mean many a trip into Cannes – it’s famed for its celeb-filled film festival and glitzy yachting community of course (and that makes for some excellent people-watching…) but there’s rather more to it than that. The old Le Suquet area gives a glimpse into what the town was once like, and there are some pretty churches and a fab food market to wander around too. For a change of sandy scenery, head to the harbour for boat trips to Île Sainte-Marguerite and Île St Honorat in the Lérins Islands; both have beaches, historic buildings and a somewhat slower pace of life than Cannes. Leave city and coast behind for a while by heading into the hills for a hike – there are mountain trails to be trekked around Tanneron (25 minutes’ drive) and Grasse (half an hour), the latter also famed for its perfume production. If you reckon you’ve got a good nose for it, you can mix up your own fragrance blend at some of the perfumeries.
