  • Family-friendly site with cowboy theme, 20 minutes' drive from Laon
  • On-site fishing and easy access to many hiking trails
  • Pool, masseuse, restaurant, go-kart hire and play area
Cowboys, carp and chilled-out massage sessions: what a winning combination... All can be had at Picardy's Camping Les Étangs du Moulin, an Aisne countryside site in a seven-hectare forest with cowboy-themed holidays, carp fishing and modern facilities decorated with a Western style. Adults will be likely be gunning for a session from the masseuse available to book on site, while juniors will approve mightily of the cowboy food in the restaurant, served up along with lighter bites; and the go-kart hire so kids can go careering around the site. There's also a heated indoor pool open throughout the season, pétanque and volleyball courts, and a play area not far from the pitching field: oui, this is a family-friendly site… And if you want to sing yourself around the surrounding countryside? Canter along to the splendid hikes and mountain bike routes of nearby Saint-Gobain Forest.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: The theme was really quiant. Lovely service during check in. Loved location really relaxing. Great sized pitches with drinking water available on each pitch. Also facilities were lovely in the western theme - they are rural in style which we like normally staying in natural sites. Very clean with everything you need. Great water pressure in showers & great temp for hot water (even had a little doggy shower). Lovely indoor pool & really great fishing available in multiple ponds across the site at no extra cost. Had a lovely meal in the restuarunt also in the evening. Loved the cheese tart & great veggie burger. Great value for money.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Wij verbleven hier 1 nacht. Vriendelijke ontvangst, ruime plek. Heel prettig dat er een goed restaurant aanwezig is. Als je van vissen houdt is deze camping ideaal. Verschillende vijvers aanwezig. Honden zijn welkom!

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Everything, Worst site ive been to in France in over 20 years, drive down a steep hill , the pitch was way smaller than advertised and very difficult for my size of caravan , my car was hanging over the embankment to the lake below when trying to reverse on to the pitch , getting off in the morning i managed to pushed the caravan on to the dirt track to make it easier so i didn't loss my car to the lake , and then i had to drive down the track and turn around has there was no way i was driving up a gravel 45 degree road to the exit, the toilets were in need of something , we tried several times to have a shower 10.30pm , the table tennis had never been cleaned , the food at the restaurant 22 euros for a burger i thought was very expensive so we cooked our own burgers and chips very nice indeed

From the manager: Hello, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not live up to your expectations. However, we would like to point out that the pitch you occupied is one of the most spacious on our campsite. If you had difficulty parking, it would have been better to contact reception to benefit from our assistance, or to request a change of pitch. We are always listening to our customers to offer them the best possible service. Regarding the campsite map, we do indeed warn our customers with a caravan or motorhome not to take the second exit, as the slope is not suitable for this type of vehicle. We regret that you encountered problems despite our recommendations. As for our restaurant, we do our best to offer excellent value for money, with generous plates that are generally well received by our customers. We are therefore surprised by your negative opinion. Finally, if you felt like you were poorly received or reprimanded by management, we are sincerely sorry. Our goal is to enforce the rules for the well-being of all campers. Good riddance!

Local attractions

After a few days around the forest or swimming/chilling on site, get along to other highlights of the region, like the medieval town of Laon about 12 kilometres away, where top picks include its its 12th-century cathedral and a wander down its alleys to the Old Bishop's Palace, Hôtel-Dieu and to the citadel. Also within about 20 minutes' drive are the Chemin des Dames, the 30 kilometres of 'ladies paths' that became the site for the three Aisne battles in World War I. Several French, British and German war memorials and cemeteries now lie along its route; guided tours are available from the visitor centre at the paths' Dragon's Lair network of caves. Another famed attraction in the area is the Château de Coucy (10 kilometres), the huge feudal fortress overlooking the valley of the River Ailette that's been standing since the thirteenth century and been a designated monument historique since the nineteenth.
