It's free, quick and easy!
- Family-friendly site a 10-minute tram ride from Nantes city centre
- Puy de Fou, Legendia Parc and Planète Sauvage within an hour’s drive
- Bar-restaurant, takeaway, bike rental and themed miniature golf
Make your way with haste to Nantes Camping, a family-friendly site in the Loire-Atlantique city of Nantes, where you can have your cake and eat it too. City site with added greenery? Check. Lots to do with no driving required? Double check.
Spend a few days on site to start, as there’s plenty here to keep everyone busy. There are staples like pétanque and table tennis of course, and a more outré 15-hole miniature golf course designed around the works of Jules Verne, plus it’s a handily short putt along to the bar-restaurant that overlooks the course for a sit-down meal or a takeaway.
Struggling to keep temperatures down under the Pays de la Loire sun? Paddle over to the Petit Port swimming pool (a two-minute walk and free entry on arrival) where there’s a slide, relaxation pool, and large heated and covered pool. It’s got late opening during the week too, so midnight swims are (nearly) within reach.
This is a prime spot for car-free adventuring: it’s less than five minutes’ walk from the nearest tram stop, with a quick 10-minute journey into the centre of Nantes for shopping and sightseeing. More of an active type? Rent a bike on site and venture off on the 1,200-kilometre Vélodyssée, which passes the site entrance, or the 900-kilometre Loire by Bike (a 20-minute cycle away).

Local attractions
Explores of Nantes are a must during stays here: the pretty Loire Valley city has plenty of must-visits to add to the list, from the giant elephant and marine carousel of les Machines de l’Île, to the spectacular Château des Ducs de Bretagne. Bibliophiles in particular might have extra reason to poke around: there’s a museum dedicated to the printing process, and the city was once home to Jules Verne, subject of another museum.
Busy days for kids (and grownups) are within easy reach too – for energy-filled kids, there’s a maze, assault course, pedalos, go-karts and trampolining 20 minutes’ drive away at Parc des Naudières, while more introspective types might prefer an afternoon among the animals at Planète Sauvage or the Boissière-du-Doré zoo, both within 45 minutes.
Even more animals are 50 minutes away at Legendia Parc, or wildlife could be bypassed entirely in favour of a trip to France’s second most popular theme park, Puy du Fou, where guests take a deep dive into French history – seriously, it's seriously splendid.
Stick with history with a quick pitstop at the stunning Château de Goulaine 25 minutes from base. If outdoor time more appeals, the site is a little under an hour from the beaches of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins, Saint-Nazaire, Pornichet and La Baule, and about an hour from Brière Regional Natural Park.
