  • On the banks of the Dordogne river and within easy reach of Rocamadour
  • Canoeing from the site, plus climbing, caving and canyoning nearby
  • Weekly meals, DJ nights and illuminated night swims in the pool
Pitched perfectly next to the peaceful flow of the Dordogne river, Camping La Plage is handily placed for the Lot’s most topping attractions, like the clifftop village of Rocamadour, the Lacave and Padirac caves and the medieval town of Sarlat-la-Canéda. A friendly familial vibe is what’s in store at this highty peaceful riverside retreat: heaps of trees around the two-hectare grounds provide pretty surrounds and lots of welcome shade. When you arrive on site, you’ll be warmly welcomed and walked around to personally pick your favourite spot; always starting with guests as they mean to go on, the friendly La Plage team are on hand throughout your stay to help with anything you need (including offering pointers to favourite local sights). After settling in, leave the pitch behind in search of leisure facilities and activities around the property, for there are loads to pick from. Facilities first: there’s a heated outdoor pool and paddling pool, or if you prefer your swims and splashes au naturel, you can totter to the riverbank that borders the park. On terra firma there’s loads to get stuck into too, like ping pong, pétanque, volleyball, badminton and basketball (kit is available to borrow for all aforementioned pursuits), as well as a playground and board games to keep the kids convivial. When it comes to activities for all the family, the team organises weekly communal meals to give guests the chance to mingle, as well as weekly DJ nights followed by night swims in the illuminated pool, twice-weekly pool aerobics classes, treasure hunts and friendly sports tournaments.

Local attractions

The site lies along one of the most spectacular sections of the Dordogne valley, with highly scenic canoe trips departing direct from the site. There’s a whole heap more to get active with in La Plage’s local vicinity too: a nearby outdoor adventure company organises excursions including climbing, caving, canyoning and mountain biking. For a family-friendly day out, whisk the kids off to Quercyland and its waterpark – if you fancy trying out another of the area’s splashing spots, there’s another one a little further afield over in Bétaille. The site has tons of tourist info too: pick yourself up some hiking maps and guides, and pick from any of the plentiful trails that lie around the site. If you’re a horsey sort, there’s a riding stable within easy reach too for horseback tours of the local countryside.
