  • Peaceful location by the Lot river just outside Cénevières
  • A 10-minute drive to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie; 20 minutes to Pech Merle cave
  • Activity centre on site for bike/kayak rentals and excursions
Fancy spending some time chilling out on the banks of the Lot river – and with handy amenities nearby too? Sounds like you need a stay at Chill-Lot Camping Insolite. This lovely Midi-Pyrénées site is in a rather fabulous location right by the river, about 10 minutes’ walk from the centre of the small town of Cénevières. The riverside setting makes this an excellent place to relax and watch the wildlife or perhaps have a go at fishing. If you need a little more activity in your life that’s easily sorted too, as the site has its own activity centre that’s open in the summer months for guests to rent bikes, kayaks and pedal boats or join in with cycling and kayaking excursions. There’s plenty of special scenery to explore nearby, as this site is in a central location within the Causses du Quercy Natural Regional Park and within easy reach of attractions including the Pech Merle caves and the popular village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (which can be reached by bus or bike, or on foot from the site). On return from your day out you can take a swim in the river a short way from the site, sign up for a massage (weekly visits in high season) or pick up refreshments at the bar – it serves drinks, smoothies and ice creams, and is also open for breakfast. After that, it’s an easy stroll into town to eat at the tapas bar or pick up meal ingredients at the small supermarket and head back to base to cook on the shared barbecue. Other shared facilities include a fridge, freezer, launderette and bathrooms with wheelchair-accessible facilities.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked: Beautiful location, incredible scenery, laid back camping.

Disliked: The insects. We couldn't spend much time outside of he campervan as we both got bitten to pieces. Obviously with the site being next tonwater this will happen. Beautiful regardless. Worth the Itch!

Local attractions

Being in the Causses du Quercy Natural Regional Park means access to all sorts of outdoor activities such as climbing, mountain biking, and canoe trips. There are plenty of short walks/bike rides around, or you could take on something more substantial with a chunk of the GR65 Chemin de Compostela. Whether you walk, bike or drive the journey, a visit to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (10 minutes’ drive) is a must – with 13 historic monuments and a stunning clifftop location, it’s no wonder this medieval gem is classified as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. Also worth visiting nearby are Cahors and Figeac (both 40 minutes) and the stunning Rocamadour (an hour). If it’s natural wonders that get you going, head instead to Gorges de l’Aveyron (45 minutes) or get underground at Pech Merle cave (20 minutes) to see the famed prehistoric cave paintings.
