- Family-friendly two-hectare woodland site with Mongolian yurts
- 10-minute drive to Gorges de la Save for scenic walks
- Outdoor pool and restaurant with terrace overlooking the Pyrenees
If you’ve pictured yourself on your hols admiring views of the scenic peaks of the Pyrenees while keeping cosy in a Mongolian yurt, make that situation a reality with a stay at Au Bois d'Escoumos, in Gensac-de-Boulogne.
The yurts at this peaceful, two-hectare woodland site in the Haute-Garonne department are kitted out with traditional furniture and a woodburning stove to keep things toasty should a chill pass over. Outside, each one has a picnic bench and private hut with dry toilet and water reserve; a shared shower room is close by too.
There’s plenty to do on site, starting with strolls around the wood and perhaps a game or two of hide-and-seek among the trees. Continue the games with a table tennis match or getting to grips with the finer points of Mölkky (a Finnish throwing game). There’s also a zipline, trampoline and playground with swings and a slide.
If you're not in the market for such activity, take a dip in the outdoor pool, get comfy in a hammock, book a massage in your yurt or under an oak tree, or sign up for qigong classes.
Either way, make sure you leave time to get acquainted with the resident animals: a donkey, a sheep and a goat all live here, as do cats, dogs, ducks and chickens – the latter keeping the restaurant stocked with eggs. Speaking of the restaurant, it's a fine spot for tasty breakfasts and lunches on the terrace overlooking the Pyrenees. If you fancy prepping your own meals instead, there’s a communal kitchen, and barbecues are permitted.

Local attractions
This is a fab base for exploring the local area on foot, bike or horseback, perhaps with a spot of fishing in between. A 10-minute drive gets you to Gorges de la Save for pretty walks around lakes and waterfalls; for more ambitious hikes, opt for the Pyrénées National Park (an hour).
For watery antics, take a lake swim at Lac de Montréjeau (half an hour), or choose sporty stuff like wakeboarding, paddleboarding and waterskiing at Wake Park La Source (an hour), where there’s also an inflatable aqua park to bounce across.
More lake-based larks can be had at La Demi-Lune leisure park (20 minutes), with pedal boats, bumper boats and water zorbing. Dry land activities here include pony rides, a toboggan run, miniature golf, ziplining, climbing and a trampoline park.
Toulouse can be reached in about an hour and a half, for glimpses of the impressive Basilique Saint-Sernin de Toulouse and the Capitole de Toulouse, home to the town hall and a theatre. On the outskirts of Toulouse, the Cité de l'Espace space museum is packed full of nipper-pleasing interactive displays.
