- Peaceful family site on the Larzac plateau
- In the middle of Aveyron's five Knights Templar and Hospitaller sites
- Bar-restaurant, barbecue, shop, bike hire and TV room
Will spectacular scenery, adrenaline-fuelled activities and plenty of hiking tick your getaway bucket list boxes? If yes, make your way to Camping au Tour de l’Aveyron, a spacious family site on the Larzac plateau, less than five minutes’ drive from the village of L’Hospitalet-du-Larzac in the Aveyron department of the Midi-Pyrénées.
Au Tour de l’Aveyron is a prime spot for exploring the Larzac plateau and this part of Midi-Pyrénées: it lies on a hiking trail and is also less than half an hour from the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park, for canoeing, climbing, caving, paragliding and flights in a microlight or plane.
Back on site, you can aim for a more relaxing experience: chill out in front of the TV, rack up the points in pétanque or hire a bike for a slow-paced exploration of the surrounding area. And when you’re in need of a cooling-off period? Head to the public pool less than five minutes away for a dip.
Hunger starting to kick in? Take a table at the bar-restaurant and sit down for a bite or, if you’d prefer to make your own culinary masterpieces, fire up the barbecue to sizzle up delectables from the on-site store. If that doesn’t float your boat, you can always head to one of the restaurants within 10 minutes of the site.

Local attractions
For feats of daring, you won’t have to go far from Camping au Tour de l’Aveyron – less than five minutes’ drive from site, board the plane for a parachute jump over the Larzac countryside, or go paragliding or canyoning in the Cévennes National Park 20 minutes away. At the Gorges du Tarn, take to the river for whitewater rafting or simply take in the spectacular scenery from a kayak or bike.
If you prefer a more sedate experience, there’s plenty to keep you safe on solid ground: travel to Creissels for a boat trip under the impressive Millau Viaduct, pedal along the Larzac vélorail route through the Cernon valley, taste the blue cheeses at the Roquefort cellars, or make your way to the secluded but stunning Cirque de Navacelles.
History buffs are well-served around here – start with the museum in L’Hospitalet-du-Larzac, follow the trail between the five fortified sites of the Knights Templar and Hospitaller, or head to the scenic Saint-Guilhelm-le-Désert for the UNESCO-listed abbey and the Clamousse caves.
Kids driven to distraction? Distract them in a good way with the bugs at Micropolis, or the lizards at Larzac Reptilarium, both within half an hour of Au Tour de l’Aveyron.
