What a smashing site this is: before going further, you should pause here a moment to cast an eye over the site pics… Camping du Lac du Causse is a family-friendly site in a peaceful natural setting on the edge of Lac du Causse, close to the Dordogne and Vézère valleys, and in an area of historic sites, cute villages and many an activity like fishing, hiking, golf, horse riding, canoeing and sailing. For time on site – also un good choice – many facilities and activities are to hand, including a pool with views of the adjoining lake, a pétanque court, a games room, a play area and summer entertainment organised by the friendly team for the kids. Fishing is available on the lake along with courses and kit hire for sailing, windsurfing and boating. Eats are sorted at the food shop, bar and café-restaurant, and shops, supermarkets and the town of Brive-la-Gaillarde are a short distance away. Camping du Lac du Causse has a launderette as well as amenities blocks with showers.

Local attractions

Brive-la-Gaillarde and its colourful market place, named after famous French singer Georges Brassens, are 25 minutes' drive away. The town's old quarters are lined with shops, restaurants and walking streets; also take time to see the Labenche Museum, with its regular exhibitions and 17 galleries of art, crafts, natural history and archaeology. Other nearby spots to sightsee at include the Jardins de Colette with their five hectares of flowers, vegetables and trees (20 minutes); the quarry Les Pans de Travassac (30 minutes); splendid Padirac Chasm (50 minutes) and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lascaux Cave, famed for its Paleolithic cave paintings (40 minutes). Also have a look at the distillery at Denoix and and La Chocolaterie at Lamy (both 20 minutes) and the medieval town of Sarlat (50 minutes), a few kilometres north of the Dordogne and with winding medieval streets, Place de la Liberté and its cathedral. Within a 30-45 minute drive are the pretty villages of Turenne, Collonges la Rouge, Curemonte and Saint Robert.
