  • Family-friendly and welcoming park in Montblanc town
  • In a wine-growing region and 12km from the Mediterranean
  • Bar, TV room, swimming pool and play area
A French site in a wine-growing region – quelle surprise. But there's even more to Camping Le Rebau than this happy happenstance, as it's not only in the vinoland of the Hérault, but is only about 12 kilometres away from the blue waters of the Med. Wine and sea: la perfection, surely… That tempting mix is located in the town of Montblanc – not anywhere near actual Mont Blanc (that’s about five hours away) but in the southern French region of Languedoc-Roussillon, between Cap d'Agde, Béziers and Pézenas. The park is a peaceful one filled with colourful flowers and trees to provide welcome shade and privacy around the pitches. It’s a rather fine spot for couples and families alike: as the grownups are drawn to the prospect of local wine tasting and touring, so will the nippers most likely be approving of the swimming pool, playground, pétanque court, TV room and activities laid on throughout the summer. Naturally, there’s a bar on site where you can sample a local tipple or two; it’s also worth noting the presence of a sizeable wine co-op just next door (how handy). Time for eats? Barbecues are welcome, and there are restaurants, bakeries, bars and a supermarket all within a few minutes’ tottering distance.

What customers say

Pitches lekker ruim met goeie skadu. Poel gewild, maar soms toe buite hoogseisoen. Toilets/showers mixed – oud vir sommiges, skoon vir ander. Gherraai van kampeerders/verkeer gehoor. Ontvangs nie altyd dieselfde nie.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch (two person)

Liked The pitches were big and spacious, shady, with additional space for the car.

Disliked When we first arrived, they had no record of the balance having been paid one month prior, so after a long drive we spent the first twenty minutes going through bank accounts to prove that we had paid.

We got to our lovely pitch and set up, which was very spacious and protected from the sun, but once the sun started moving around, we started getting a vague whiff of urine. Which we can only assume was from previous campers using the corner.

The toilet facilities were also questionable. Four toilets for the whole campsite, and only one with a toilet seat. Cleaned regularly and the cleaner I met was lovely, but the facilities were a bit outdated on top of having no seats?

Two showers for the whole campsite, with a third near the pool, but as this also had a toilet in it and probably had kids in and out all day, it stank unbelievably the night we looked at using it and didn’t try again.

The other two showers were okay themselves, but the drain was half blocked in one of them, and the second shower had a broken lock so had to have someone stand guard outside when using it. On our last night, the second shower (with broken lock) also stank hideously of urine.

We did not even visit the pool area as we thought if a shower wasn’t clean, how could the pool be?

Worse than all of this, it seems like it’s a party campsite, which is absolutely not advertised. There was a group of men in one of the static homes for the duration of our three night stay. They had loud pumping music, sitting outside, drinking, shouting, being rowdy until at least gone 1:30am all of the three nights. No one stepped in as there is no one on site once reception closed. I couldn’t believe people could be so selfish on a campsite with so many families, especially with tiny babies. On our third night, they were particularly rowdy, until after 2am, and then a group of women took over being loud and disruptive, until 5am when it finally quietened down, two hours before we had to start a 7 hour drive. The night before that we’d barely slept as a group of teenagers on the pitch behind us were loud and drunk until the early hours. I couldn’t believe the selfishness. Before the drunk adults took over there were kids running around until midnight. Just not something I’ve ever experienced, usually quiet hours after 11. This was the worst I had ever slept on a campsite.

I’m very disappointed as the website and photographs of the campsite in the website looked so perfect, and the location was good for access to the beach a short drive away and an easy walk into the small nearby town. I would avoid coming back to this campsite and would not recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday stay. If you’re a group of rowdy people looking to get drunk and stay up shouting all night with no repercussions, or want to urinate in showers, this is your site to visit!

Electric optional grass and earth pitch (two person)

Liked At first looked a lovely site

Disliked Well, 4 toilets for over 40 placements and only 2 showers.
And dont be fooled about quiet time after 11pm they had music and karaoke playing at full belt till 12.30 in the morning. We were parked as far away from the bar and it still vibrated through the van. If you want butlins then this is your place.

Local attractions

So so much to do in this part of the south of France... especially if you're a historyhead... Traces of the Gallo-Roman period can be found at the mouth of the Hérault River, where the Phoenicians founded the city of Agde 2,500 years ago, built with volcanic stones from Mont Saint-Loup (the city is nicknamed the Black Pearl for its monuments built with volcanic rock). Saint-Etienne Cathedral is in Agde, along with architecture dating from when the port was founded in 540BC. Take a look at Cap d'Agde too, which can be visited by boat or catamaran. And that's just to start you historyheads off... see also the ancient Via Domitia running along the A9 highway through the old villages of Castelnau-de-Guers, Pinet, Pomerols and Saint-Thibéry, and the Canal du Midi, constructed by Pierre-Paul Riquet in the 17th-century to connect the Garonne River to the Étang de Thau on the Mediterranean. The canal runs from the city of Toulouse down to the Étang de Thau, and through Agde and Béziers, a few kilometres from Camping Le Rebau. Also nearby, make for the small village of Montblanc about ten minutes from Cap d'Agde and Béziers to visit the adventure park Val d'Hérault Nature, where over 1,000 animals, thousands of plants and flocks of exotic birds live in reproduced natural habitats.
