- Secluded site surrounded by trees and bordered by the Gardon river
- On the edges of Cévennes National Park, 10 minutes’ drive to Anduze
- Outdoor pool with slides and whirlpools; playground and activities
A cheery time checking out the Gard department’s countryside is a champion way to spend a hol… so why not give it a go at Domaine de Gaujac, just on the eastern edge of the Cévennes National Park? Nature’s never far away while at this complex, which covers 10 woodland-covered hectares of ground bordered by the Gardon river.
Peaceful pastimes like fishing are to be had down by the water (the Gardon's a Category 2 fishing river) and the entire site’s got a serene feel as it’s at the end of a no-through road away from the noise of traffic. If you’re after a livelier hol, dive into the outdoor swimming pool (heated from May to September) with its slides, paddling pool and whirlpools or spend time at the site's sports facilities for football, tennis, volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, miniature golf and pétanque.
In high season you can mix up such pastimes with additional on-site activities including pétanque tournaments and aqua gym sessions while the nippers are at the kids' club or meeting new pals at the mini farm. Summertime entertainment extends to evenings too with a bar open to all ages and events such as open-air films, karaoke and themed meals.
Line your stomach with the food available at the park's restaurant, including takeaway meals if you’re up for on-your-lap dining, before sipping on some vin at the bar (perhaps while browsing the free wifi that's available on the terrace). Alternatively, pick up bits at the site's grocery shop and bread depot or head into the nearest town Anduze, a 10-minute drive away, to sample the classic French restaurants there.

Local attractions
Endless excursions are to be had from this well-located park – start off by toting the kids along for tree climbing at the Perfume Adventure Park, then bound around the bamboo forest in Anduze (both 15 minutes’ drive) while surrounded by towering tropical plants.
The Cordeliers Park botanical trail, 10 minutes’ drive, has more foliage to fawn over, while the centre of the Cévennes National Park (15 minutes) is your go-to for gentle hikes on low-rising mountains.
Countryside spots worth exploring a little further on include the Gardon Gorges (50 minutes); make sure to swing by the region’s architectural jewel, the enormous Pont du Gard Roman-era aqueduct, as well.
Trace your way back to the BC period at the Arena of Nîmes – one of the world best-preserved amphitheatres – and the grand Maison Carrée temple (45 minutes) too, or combine architecture-admiring trips with shopping at Uzès, a town famed for its market and arcade-covered town square (50 minutes).
