  • Quiet family-friendly campsite at Ambon in southern Brittany
  • Plage de Trehervé 20 minutes’ walk and Vannes half an hour’s drive
  • Play area and family games; breakfast and snack service in high season
If you’re overdue a visit to southern Brittany beaches, Camping de la Tour might be just what you’re looking for. This family-friendly campsite sits in countryside on the edge of the coastal resort of Ambon and is only 20 minutes’ walk from sandy Plage de Trehervé on the Baie de Kervoyal. With various accommodation to suit all pockets, the site is neatly landscaped with flowers and shrubs, and partly shaded by mature trees. Ariane is the third generation of her family to run the place, and along with her team, she’ll welcome you with a smile. Families are certainly well looked after here, with a TV, book loan and board games for lazy days, or ping-pong, table football and pétanque games for when you’re feeling a bit more active. A roster of entertainment for all the family kicks off in July and August, when there’s also a breakfast pastry service and newspaper delivery at reception, as well as a snack bar selling ice creams and drinks. The laid-back towns of Ambon and Damgan (both about five minutes’ drive) have a sprinkling of low-key restaurants and takeaways, while the latter is also home to a big supermarket for stocking up on supplies.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: A pretty, pleasant, small campsite with nice hedge-lined pitches, good hot showers, free wifi, close to the beach and town, with a very lovely and helpful host.— She was friendly and customer focused and went over and above to help us during our short stay. We are very grateful and look forward to returning to the campsite. Highly recommended.

Disliked: Nothing.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Grass pitch, choice of pitches.

Disliked: Grumpy male when I first arrived, wasn't very helpful and couldn't find my booking and didn't seem bothered. Young girl turned up and was very pleasant and proceeded to find my booking and checked me in. Seems to be a lot of long term static caravans there and the residents looked at me as if I was an alien 👽 invading their space.

From the manager: Thank you for your comment. We are sorry for your bad experience upon arrival. There was a problem registering your reservation. Our residents are generally very friendly :-), maybe it wasn't a good day.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Easy booking through Pitchup and speedy response from Camping De La Tour. Reception was friendly and helpful. Very secure site with fob access. Fair size touring pitches. Although facilities were a little tired they were kept spotless at all times 15min walk to a nice beach. An excellent site to walk or cycle from, with good routes through the lovely countryside.

Disliked: Excellent location but we felt the site was mainly aimed at permanent site living and touring pitches were an ‘add on’. Hedges needed cutting back.

From the manager: Thank you for your rating and comment :-) We are sorry, we were indeed late for hedge cutting at the start of the season. Our family campsite is made up of residents in mobile homes and caravans as well as tourists welcomed in our 30 touring pitches, 3 cabins (Cabanétapes) for hikers and cyclists and 6 mobile homes for rent.

Friendly, cheap and easy access.

Local attractions

Sporty families will soon be swimming, rock pooling or fishing on uncrowded Plage de Trehervé (five minutes’ drive/20 minutes’ walk). Landlubbers with young kids can follow the level coastal path around the Baie de Kervoyal to Cromenac’h, stopping off at secluded little coves as they go, and popular family cycle rides include the looped route to Port de Penerf from Damgan (about an hour by bike). Stuck for family days out? Take the kids to whoosh down the waterslides while you lounge in the sauna at Aquagolfe - Aquatic Center Vannes Agglo (20 minutes’ drive), or spot the life-size model dinosaurs on a stroll through the woodland at La Croix Neuve Malansac (40 minutes). If you’re keen to squeeze a bit of culture into your Brittany break, pay a visit to historic Vannes (half an hour’s drive) to amble around the landmark ramparts, admire the architectural mash-up that is the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre or inspect works by Eugène Delacroix and 19th-century landscape artists at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Vannes, La Cohue, partly housed in a medieval tower.
