- Seafront site five minutes' drive from Ambon
- Sea views around the site, and direct access to the beach
- Play area with trampoline and giant bouncy castle
A Brittany coast with sea views and direct access to the beach? That’s got to be a resounding oui, oui, oui merci.
Owners Brigitte and Frédérique certainly selected a smashing spot when they came to set up Camping de Cromenac’h – at this friendly site five minutes’ drive from the shops and restaurants of Ambon you can start sniffing the sea air as soon as you wake, before running straight out onto the little beach to frolic in the waves before you’ve even breakfasted should you wish.
If you’re the kind that can’t function before brekkie, you’ll be chuffed to hear that fresh bread and pastries are delivered each morning in high season for pre-swim feasting (you could always compromise by taking them to the beach, of course). Barbecues can be borrowed for your other eats, and a takeaway serves up pizzas, crêpes and the like on summer evenings.
A ping pong table, pétanque court and library with books and board games should keep you busy when you’re away from the beach, and there’s a playground, trampoline and bouncy castle to cater to tiddlers’ tastes. When you’re ready for more beach action, there are plenty more sandy spots to sprawl and splash on along the stretch of coast around Damgan, 10 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions
Having a beach at the end of your garden is admittedly mighty handy, but as this part of the world is so well endowed with fab beaches it’d be a shame to limit yourself to just the one. A good starting point is the four-kilometre stretch of soft sands in Damgan (10 minutes away); a tad more driving will take you to Rouvran (20 minutes) to scrabble around for shellfish or Penvins (25 minutes) to join the watersports crowd catching the wind and waves.
If you’re in search of somewhere for a seaside stroll, local tourist offices can sort you out with maps to follow over 100 kilometres of waymarked trails, taking in vineyards, ancient standing stones and scenic views along the way.
Leave the coast behind for a bit (don’t worry, it’ll still be there later…) to escort les enfants on day trips to Branféré zoo (20 minutes’ drive), the Brittany Prehistory Park (35 minutes) or the medieval-themed activities at Château de Suscinio; there’s also a spectacular sound and light show here on balmy summer nights.
