- Quiet family-friendly site 10 minutes’ walk from sandy Brittany beach
- Ramblers’ paradise: long-distance GR34 passes within easy reach
- Heated pool, swimming lessons, bike rental, weekly food truck
Sandcastles, sunbathing and sailing on the Brittany coast… Très bon, non? If this sounds merveilleux, make waves for Camping de Keralouet, a quiet family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from the port of Lesconil in the department of Finistère.
For handy sandy days, the site is a 10-minute walk from Les Sables Blancs, safe for swimming, aquatic walking and watersports, and sheltered enough for strolls among the dunes and along the tidal flats – or an hour or two of lazing on a towel under the French sun.
If the north Atlantic leaves everyone shivering, retreat to warmer waters at the heated pool on site and brush up on those strokes with a swimming lesson or two (they float away fast during high season, so book in advance). Not an aquatic mammal? Stick to dry land with a game of pétanque or table tennis, or by trying out one of the traditional Breton games lying around.
A food truck will roll up to site once a week, so pencil that in to evening schedules as a must. Brittany is well known for its delicious delicacies though, so be sure to get out and about to savour them and head to one of the nearby ports for fresh seafood dishes. If dinner feels like it’s a long way away, start high-season days with a full breakfast or fresh bread and pastries (by reservation).

Local attractions
If strolls and dips at Les Sables Blancs aren’t satisfying, there are sailing lessons in Lesconil, more beaches and a marina 10 minutes’ drive away at Loctudy, and surfing, sand yachting, snowboard surfing and paddleboarding at surf hotspot La Torche 20 minutes from base.
If island living is beckoning, the site is well placed. The stunning Glénan Islands rise out of the sea just 10 miles from shore, and are easily reached from Loctudy or Bénodet (half an hour away). This ‘Breton Tahiti’ is well worth an explore, with white sandy beaches and a clear blue lagoon summoning visitors over the waves.
The long-distance GR 34 passes right by the site if mainland adventures are more enticing. Ramble along the path past marshes, coves and dunes, and try out a little wildlife spotting too – just don’t forget to make the most of those views.
Away from the coast, there’s plenty to entertain too: to get a feel for the history and culture of the area, head to the 19th-century Manoir de Kerazan for tours (open from June to September), to the museum in the keep of Château des Barons du Pont, to the spectacular lighthouse in Penmarc’h and to the weekly Thursday market in Pont l’Abbé for food, crafts and clothing. And that's just to start...
