It's Brittany, it's the Côtes-d'Armor and it's a village of yurts – three très big reasons for a splendid and scenic stay here, near the seaside and close to Cancale. Based in the tiny commune of Plessix-Balisson, Village des Yourtes is about five kilometres from Brittany's excellent Emerald Coast, 12–16 kilometres from Dinard and Saint-Malo, and under 30 from oyster capital Cancale, all in an area of cycling, walking and coastal hikes among spectacular scenery. The port of Erquy and popular Cap Frehel are also within easy day trip distance. The spacious yurts on site are Mongolian style, with traditional Mongol furniture and motifs. They're fully furnished and include sleeping space for up to five, kitchen kit and a heater. There are shared toilets and showers. Also at this friendly site are a well-equipped play area with bouncy castle and trampoline; a bar; a pétanque court, barbecue facilities, free wifi and a small grocery shop. And another très big reason to book a stay at this yurt village? Massages can be had right on site too.

Local attractions

This peaceful place is a five-kilometre drive from the splendid Brittany coast, within easy driving distance of top tourist destinations like Saint-Malo, Dinard and Cap Frehel. The oyster town and old fishing port of Cancale is also a much-visited destination on the Brittany tourist trail: sample the oysters between September and April and potter around the many seafood restaurants and crustacean stalls at any time of year. To walk it all off, the coastal path from the town follows a circular route to the Pointe du Grouin with views across the bay towards Mont Saint-Michel. West of Plessix-Balisson and Dinard is Cap Fréhel, home of two lighthouses (the 17th-century one is the one to see, although the 1950s one is open to visitors). It's well worth the hike to the headland here too for the spectacular views of the rocky coast, crags and flocks of nesting seabirds. About 16 kilometres from base is the port of Erquy, with its spectacular sandy beaches and pink sandstone houses. As Cancale is the oyster capital, Erquy is the scallops one, landed by its dozens of trawlers harvesting the scallops banks first discovered here in the early 1960s.
