Camping Le Pont de Vicq

General

  • On the banks of the Dordogne two kilometres from medieval Cadouin
  • Direct access to a riverside beach
  • Pool surrounded by spacious deck area with sun loungers

If you're a holiday bragging sort (and of course you are; that's why the likes of Facebook are so ubiquitous), you'll like the boasting opps available with a stay at Camping Le Pont de Vicq, near the commune of Le Buisson-de-Cadouin in the Dordogne.

Pourquoi? Because you'll be able to airily answer enquiries regarding what you did on your holidays with a breezy 'Oh, just pitched up by the banks of the Dordogne' (and be sure to add a nonchalant 'Doncha know?' for good measure).

These are riverside pitches, right on the left bank of the river and with access to a river beach for sunbathing and dipping: be sure to get the direct beach access into your holiday gloat too…

Other envy can be induced by the fact that the kids can be kept nicely busy on a stay here, whether they're splashing about in the river (that's the Dordogne), wheeling around the playground, bouncing to and fro on the trampoline or making new pals at the kids' club in high season.

The site also has a big pool and a paddling pool, both surrounded by a spacious deck area set up with sun loungers; a snack bar for drinks and light bites, and a shop stocked with local products, bread and other essentials.

Amenities (because even boastful hols must involve practicalities) include a laundry room with washing machines, a washing-up area, and three toilet blocks with free hot showers, spacious toilet cubicles and disabled facilities.

Great riverside location with good size plots and friendly reception team. We only stopped for one night but had everything we needed within a very short walk eg. wash facilities and showers. Also within easy walking distance of the local town and some local attractions.

This is our third stay here. We are always greeted warmly by Maria and her staff and she will always try her best to accommodate our needs.
The site is situated right on the banks of the Dordogne and has easy access to the river for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding. There is kayak hire right at the edge of the campsite.
The food served in the bar is always great quality and value for money.
The toilets are always clean and the showers are warm and fairly powerful.
The village is a short walk away (you can easily cycle this) and has a market day and a Casino shop that sells anything you may have forgotten.

Our pitch was 1 minute walk from the river and 3 minutes from the pool. Great pitch, good size, flat and tent’s were in the shade all day. Enough room to put the car and play. Toilets and washing up were really close. Great food at the restaurant and not expensive. Staff were really friendly. Close enough to walk to town when it’s not really hot but far enough away to not hear the traffic.

    Disliked:

Not enough bins. 1 small one per toilet block and nothing by the bar.

What's not to like about this Dordogne riverside location! Nice shady pitches, clean ablutions and hot showers, onsite bar & restaurant...close to a village and all the region offers. The site borders on the river so you don't have to go far for a good swim or paddle board or kayak (in fact you can rent canoes next to the campsite at the bridge). There is a pool but there was no need to use it thanks to the sparkling crystal clear Dordogne. A gem of a campsite.

    The view of the river

    Disliked:

When we turned up there was no one at reception for an hour. The door was locked and was completely dark in there. We rung the doorbell, no answer. There was a sign on the door saying ‘ we are at the campsite, ring this number’ so we rang the number, no answer. Finally when someone turned up, the staff were so unwelcoming and not very friendly at all. Later on we tried to find where the drinking water was but we couldnt find it, so went to the reception to ask but once again it was closed. Even though the opening hours were clearly stated 8am - 8:30pm. There were no lights in the toilets, no toilet paper. No warm water to wash up. I am relieved we only had one night booked here because i was very very disappointed.

Location of river side pitches- very beautiful. We watched fish jump and otters playing at dusk. Showers and toilets were clean and functional.

    Disliked:

We arrived at the beginning of May and to be honest they were not ready for the season. Bar not open, the restaurant opposite was closed, pool was still full of green water from the winter.
It was also quite remote. We cycled to the small village up the road which had basic shops, but nothing to write home about.
We booked to stay here for 4 nights but only stayed for one.

From the manager...

The bar and the restaurant are only open on July and August as it's written on my website. The swimming pool will be open in june with the good weather
I'm sorry for this misunderstanding

Local attractions

As you'll loftily inform everyone in the office/on your Facebook page, the Dordogne is filled with highly impressive attractions one could mosey around for several months.

You could make for the Maxange caves five minutes' drive away, the lush landscapes of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park an hour or so north… and of course the Dordogne river, and have you showed everyone your snaps of your riverside stay?

The area's also exceedingly popular for outdoorsy and nature-based activities, from canoeing and kayaking down the Dordogne and Vezère rivers to horse riding at La Jumenterie and golfing at Château des Vigiers, 50 minutes and an hour away.

Another famed destination in the Dordogne is the small medieval village of Cadouin a mere two kilometres from the site, with its 12th-century abbey where torchlight guided tours take place daily. If you're around with les enfants, the Touron animal park is a good option for a family day out.
