It's free, quick and easy!
- Peaceful seaview site 2km from the award-winning beach of Hermosa
- Fishing and whale, dolphin and turtle watching trips nearby
- Six kilometres from the lively nightlife of Del Coco
You'll be within easy reach of the glitzy nightlife of Del Coco beach if you're smart enough to book a stay at Costa Rica's Congo's Camping… but in a peaceful and remote setting if you then yearn for quiet the next day – perhaps because of a gently throbbing head…?
Although it's centrally placed for Costa Rica cocktails, Congo's is a quiet site in a small bay, six kilometres from Del Coco and two from the award-winning beach of Hermosa. You can hire kayaks, canoes and jetskis at the beach, as well as arrange surfing, scuba diving and snorkelling excursions, including day trips to the famed Roca Bruja surf spot accessed through Santa Rosa National Park.
Paddleboarding, skimboarding and windsurfing are also popular at Playa Hermosa, and depending on the season you can book boat trips out to go fishing or dolphin or whale watching. A big pull in this region too is taking a tour to see the leatherback turtles of Las Baulas National Park, when they come ashore in summer to lay their eggs.
Congo Camping has accessible washrooms with toilets and hot showers, a washing-up area and a launderette with washing machines and tumble dryers. There's also a handsome shared kitchen with fridge, microwave and coffee machine, and free wifi.

Local attractions
Playa Hermosa in the Guanacaste province is a top Costa Rican spot for swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, fishing and sailing. It's not as busy as some of the neighbouring sands, so head here if you want a more peaceful vibe, a serene sunbathing spot, a lazy surf in calm waters or a trot along the beach on horseback. Shops, restaurants and bars are all handy in town.
Like most of Costa Rica, the region surrounding Hermosa is a wildlife and birdwatching haven, with national parks and nature reserves all easy to access on land, and marine life spotting from the shore or via boat.
The turtles of Las Baulas National Park can be seen (in season) within 50 kilometres of here; 20 kilometres or so to the north, Santa Rosa National Park, Costa Rica's first, has howler and spider monkeys, sea and terrestrial turtles, and big cats including jaguars and cougars.
Other options are the surfing beaches of Tamarindo, Langosta, Avellanas and Grande, within 30 kilometres; the Llanos de Cortés waterfall, 20 kilometres to the east, and the thermal pools of El Guayacán, just under 60 kilometres away at Bagaces.
