  • Ensuite glamping accommodation in a peaceful Santander setting
  • A 10-minute drive from the scenic town of Barichara
  • Pool, bar, communal bonfire area and restaurant; breakfast included
‘The most beautiful town in all of Colombia’ is the fond accolade given by the Serrania del Viento Glamping team to their local town, Barichara. And they’re not the only ones to have had their eyes turned by this pretty settlement in the Santander region of Colombia – its colonial centre is so handsome and well preserved that it’s regularly used as a film set. Want to check it out for yourself? Of course you do – and that’s easily done from here with a walk of half an hour or a drive of 10 minutes or so. Ambles around the town come highly recommended, naturally, and it’s also the place for painting classes, a cinema and tours to the Chicamocha National Park. Of course, that journey into town is only easy if you’re able to tear yourself away from the site itself – and that may prove a tad tricky given that it’s a place of smart and comfy ensuite accommodation. Lazy days on site are a fine option, kicking off with a leisurely breakfast (included in the price), moving on to the outdoor pool and then taking in drinks at the bar ahead of dinner in the restaurant. Not ready for bed yet? Gather around the flames of the bonfire area or use the wifi service to share tales of your travels with the lucky folk back home.

Local attractions

You’ll be wanting to start in Barichara, of course – it’s a stunningly pretty place of cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and colourful flowers (with an equally scenic mountain background). Trot around under your own steam or take a tuktuk tour around the main sights, including the sandstone cathedral and hilltop Santa Bárbara Church. That mountain scenery caught your eye? Sign up for guided hikes, caving and paragliding in the Chicamocha National Park, or hike from town along the Camino Real to Guane in around two hours. If you don’t fancy the hike, drive to Guane instead in about half an hour to wander around the sleepy little town (keep eyes out for the fossils in the main plaza) and eat traditional food at local restaurants. If you’re in the car, it’s also worth swinging by El Mirador viewpoint (15 minutes’ drive) to snap a few pics of the scenery.
