It's free, quick and easy!
- Relaxed tree-filled site five minutes' walk from a Caribbean beach
- Within half an hour's drive of Santa Marta and Tayrona National Park
- Kitchen and launderette on site; close to public transport
Four kilometres of sandy Caribbean beach. Four. Kilometres. Of. Sandy. Caribbean. Beach. And all just a lazy five minutes’ amble from friendly Camping Los Corales…
If you’ve not yet packed your bags and shot off in that direction, just take a minute or two to let that little nugget of fabness sink in while you read a bit more about the place. Much of the site is filled with native trees, which means plenty of shade for the pitches and a handy home for the iguanas, squirrels and birds you’re likely to see scuttling around. A hammock area has been set up in a particularly favoured patch for guests to chill out, snooze and spy on the wildlife.
When not frolicking at that stunning beach (remember the beach?), there’s plenty more to fill your days around these parts. For starters, it’s a half-hour drive to the Tayrona National Park, or 45 minutes to Minca for mountain trails and birdwatching spots. Urban outings more your style? Santa Marta is a 20-minute drive away along the coast (thus making this potentially a good place to chill out pre- or post-Ciudad Perdida trek?)
Those who don’t have access to their own wheels will be chuffed to hear you can get to all three of these by public transport from close to the site. And that’s not the only nod to keeping life nice and easy: there’s also a launderette on site, a wifi connection and a kitchen with clay oven for cooking. Serve up your eats and drinks and strike up chats at the sociable communal area (or go to the beach, of course…).

Local attractions
Scrape yourself from the sands of the splendid beach, and set forth for Santa Marta (20 minutes’ drive) to take a wander through the historic centre and visit the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, where revolutionary ruler Simón Bolívar breathed his last back in 1830. The city’s also the starting point for the multi-day hike to pre-Columbian Ciudad Perdida, deep in the forests of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
There’s an aquarium in Santa Marta too, but if you want more marine life, take off to Taganga (half an hour), a fishing village with snorkelling and diving trips, plus another beach to chill out on upon return. More stunning beaches (with a backdrop of equally stunning rainforest) are over at Tayrona National Park (half an hour).
Away from the coast, it’s worth making the 45-minute car journey to Minca, for mountain hikes, birdwatching and to see the coffee plantations that create the beans for your morning flat white.
