Hiking first – around these spectacular Tyrol mountain surrounds? Latch onto the weekly hiking trip arranged each week from the site, or stride out on your own around some of the hundreds of kilometres of high-up paths. The area has 1,400 kilometres of well-signposted walks of all levels, including 400 kilometres' worth in the Zillertall region. Try hiking across the border from Zillertal to Salzburg, tackling one the nine alpine paths graded difficult, or taking it easy with a family ramble along the woodland, yodelling or culinary treats trails. (You can take one of four mountain lifts or the hiking bus up to several starting points if you want to conserve a bit of energy.) Cycling and mountain biking? Try the 31-kilometre Zillertal Bike Path, easily reached from the site, and come back in style on the Zillertalbahn which transports bikes for free. Winter sports? The ski school half a kilometre from the site gives lessons in skiing and snowboarding in several languages, to individuals or groups. If you're swishing about on your own, a free bus runs from the site to the main station of the Zillertal Arena: get a Zillertaler super ski pass for access to all 179 lifts throughout the Zillertal, on over 500 kilometres of slopes.
