  • Peaceful site on a Slow Flowers farm five minutes’ drive from Sattledt
  • Linz half an hour’s drive; Baumwipfelpfad Salzkammergut 35 minutes
  • Home-grown produce and flowers in the shop; yoga workshops
You’ve probably heard of Slow Food; now it’s time to explore the Slow Flowers movement, which aims to grow flowers seasonally and sustainably. And Lisi Grün looks like a pretty sweet spot to start your education (or continue it, if you’re already au fait with these matters). This family-friendly and blissfully peaceful site sits on an organic flower and vegetable farm in the foothills of the Alps of Upper Austria, a five-minute drive (or a 25-minute walk) from the town of Sattledt and about half an hour from the regional capital Linz. Needless to say, you’ll be surrounded by colourful blooms here – from spring daffodils to summer sunflowers, and lots more in between; if you want to bring the garden into your accommodation (on level gravel pitches in a secluded courtyard), you can purchase seasonal bouquets at the on-site shop, where you can also grab some home-grown vegetables for your barbecue. There’s a communal fridge freezer in the rustic kitchen, and a composting toilet; however, please note that there is no hot water. Dogs are welcome (and there is a dog park on site), but keep them under control, since chickens and ducks roam around free. The owners also run a number of workshops, including basketry, yoga and wreath making (it’s wise to book in advance for these); alternatively, you can hit the local links (there are several golf courses within a 15-minute drive), pedal away along the nearby R11 Almtalradweg and R12 Voralpenweg cycle paths, or go for an epic hike in Nationalpark Kalkalpen (one hour).

Electric optional gravel and sand touring pitch

Liked: I had a happy restful week here & have lots of good memories. Lisi Grün who owns and runs this campsite along with her family offered to show me around this afternoon. Very beautiful garden from vegetables to flowers and even an amazing wigwam planted from willow. She sells her cut flowers to florists or if people wish to cut there own bunches to take home. Everything is organic & has a real homely welcoming feel. Also attended a basketry course onsite which was fabulous!

Local attractions

Welser Tiergarten (20 minutes’ drive) is a city park with play areas and bouncy castles, plus a zoo whose residents include bearded macaques, howler monkeys and tamarins, as well as birds like red-billed hornbills. Stretching on the banks of the Danube, Linz is known for the Lentos Kunstmuseum of modern and contemporary art, with works by the likes of Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka and Keith Haring. In the Old Town, the New Cathedral is the country’s tallest church, while the main Hauptplatz square is lined with pastel-coloured buildings. On a forested peak overlooking the Traunsee lake, Baumwipfelpfad Salzkammergut (35 minutes) is a huge wooden tower with a ramp leading up to an observation deck. Take in the 360-degree views before coming down via the 75-metre tunnel slide (or just use the ramp, if that idea fills you with dread). The tower is part of a complex that also includes a treetop walk.
