Families, fishing folk, birdwatchers, and anyone who just fancies relaxing next to a river, make your way to BIG4 Kerang Riverfront Holiday Park – this peaceful park in Kerang is right on the banks of the Loddon river and makes a fabulous location for all sorts of holidays. Staying just by the river is a real boon for those who’d like to look out for wildlife, do some fishing or launch kayaks to explore a little further along the river. With river views all around and lots of wildlife passing by, the park has the atmosphere of a real rural location – and yet it’s actually also just on the edge of Kerang, with lots of amenities a short walk away. Those amenities include pubs, cafés, shops and takeaways, plus a fishing shop where you can pick up any bits you need for your riverside angling days. The local playground and skate park are just over the road too, as is an excellent public swimming pool and splash park that’s very handy for cooling down on hot days. Looking a little further afield, you might like to fill your days looking out for big birds at the nearby ibis rookery or exploring the trails of Gunbower National Park. Just make sure to get back to the park by sunset, as it’s often a stunning sight over the riverbank. If it gets a little chilly around dusk, you can cosy up on the seating by the communal fireplace to keep warm while chatting to your fellow travellers.

Local attractions

Kerang itself has plenty to offer to keep you busy for a little while – when you’re not out kayaking or fishing, you can take the kids to the playground or splash about in the public pool. The town also has a small museum and a library, both of which are just a short walk from the park. You may well spot some wildlife while spending time at the park, but there are also several places nearby where wildlife-watching is highly recommended – they include the ibis rookery at Reedy Lakes and the North Victorian Wetlands (both 10 minutes’ drive). Gunbower National Park (40 minutes) is another good place to head for, with walking trails and places to go canoeing/kayaking as you look out for native flora and fauna. If you’d like your walks to have something of a different focus, head to Restdown Wines and Walking Trail (45 minutes), where you can finish up a stroll through the wetlands with a wine tasting and some nibbles.
