  • Rural holiday park close to the historic Gulgong gold-rush town in NSW
  • A 20-minute drive to Mudgee; Goulburn River National Park 55 minutes
  • Communal kitchen, barbecues, car-wash gear and kids’ play area on site
A peaceful rural setting shaded by plenty of trees and a manicured lawn area are the views you have when you stay at Gulgong Tourist Park, 10 minutes’ stroll from its namesake former gold-rush town. Gulgong is fast-becoming a go-to destination on the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, so there’s currently quite a… erm… rush to get there. With all the neat facilities on the park, it’s easy to go self-catering as there’s a roomy communal camp kitchen with fridges and freezers as well as plenty of seating, along with wood and gas barbecues (fire drums are provided in winter) around the site. Kids can have a run around at the playground, and if they get mucky, a hot shower in the spotless amenities block will soon sort them out. There are washing machines to deal with all your clothes, and if you’ve been on the road for some time, keep vans and cars all shiny too with the handy car-washing equipment. Private parking and wifi are both available too.

Local attractions

Heading into Gulgong (10 minutes’ walk) is like taking a trip back in time. In the 1870s the town was focus of intense gold fever, and many of its historic wooden buildings are preserved today. Hear the back story of the gold rush in the Gulgong Gold Experience or Pioneers Museum, and see photos from the era in the Holtermann Museum. Continuing with the heritage theme, there’s also a tribute to a famous Australian bush poet at the Henry Lawson Centre, and if you fancy an evening of culture, book tickets for a performance at the Prince of Wales Opera House. For a taste of regional produce, Gulgong sits in the Mudgee (20 minutes’ drive) wine region, with many cellar doors open for tours, tasting and buying whites and reds. Get out into the fresh air to play a round at Gulgong Golf Club (15 minutes’ walk) or head into Goulburn River National Park (55 minutes’ drive) to go fishing or hiking in outback country, always keeping an eye open for emus, eastern grey kangaroos and red-necked wallabies.
