  • Family-friendly site with views over Llys-y-frân Reservoir
  • A half-hour drive to Broad Haven and 40 minutes to Tenby
  • Café and shop; watersports, bike hire, fishing and woodland walks
Picked Pembrokeshire as your destination because of the scenery? You’ll be able to soak it up at all hours when staying at Llys-y-frân Lakeview Campsite – this family-friendly site is on the banks of Llys-y-frân Reservoir, with fabulous watery views (at their best at sunset, thanks to the site’s west-facing location). You may well want to spend a fair amount of time simply looking out over the lake while you’re here – perhaps from a table at the Lakeside Café, which serves up hot drinks and sweet treats as well as a lunchtime menu of hot food showcasing top-notch local produce. Alternatively, bring your fishing kit and settle in for a relaxed day trying to catch trout from the lakeshore or one of the electric boats. Got something more energetic in mind? You’ll be sorted too, as the terraced site slopes down to an activity centre where you can book kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding sessions or hire bikes to hit the lakeside path or mountain bike trails. For other land-based activities, have a go at archery or channel your inner Celt with some axe throwing. For the younger adventurers, there are off-road six-wheeler ‘Crazi Bugz’ vehicles to drive, a climbing wall and an adventure playground. For something slower-paced, try woodland walks from the site, or set out a feast at one of the picnic spots. Dogs are also catered for with an agility playground. Practical facilities include hot showers, toilets in the activity centre, chemical disposal point, a washing-up area, a gift shop and wifi in the visitor centre. The village of Rosebush (10 minutes’ drive) is home to a characterful pub offering a traditional Welsh experience.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Everyone involved with the site's running was amiable. We felt really welcome. Super pitch, great view of the lake. The toilet block was heated, which was a big plus as it was September and the start of the cold wet weather. It is good to have a hot shower and plenty of room to towel dry in the warm.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Pitches are spacious, love the raised hump that act as separators between each pitch. Facilities are clean. The bike ramps are a brilliant extra, kept our children busy throughout the stay. We will definitely be back.

Disliked: No Grey waste area to dispose of waste water. There is an adequate chemical waste point but no grey waste. Would have liked a site map on arrival included in the welcome pack. No wi fi details in welcome pack. However not always a bad thing, children didn't look at their phones all weekend.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We look forward to seeing you all again next year. Wi-Fi is available at the visitors centre and activity centre but is not provided on the campsite. We do advise grey waste is emptied either with chemical waste or at the bike wash area as we do not have a dedicated grey waste disposal area. We will take onboard your suggestion of having a site map included in the welcome pack.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Fantastic facilities, showers and toilets very clean and modern. Excellent bike track right by the campsite. Kids loved the crazy bugs, wall climbing and kayaking. Thanks to Justin and Olly for being so good with the boys. All staff really helpful.

Disliked: Size of pitches quite small for jumbo tents. We were moved to a hard standing which was ideal. Recommend this for anyone with a big tent. No campfires / fire pits allowed

From the manager: We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and the hard standing pitch worked well for you. Thank you from the staff for your recognition. We look forward to welcoming you all again next year.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: How modern, clean and well organised the site was. Staff were very friendly and professional. Cafe was lovely.

Disliked: There really should be toilets down by the climbing wall, we spent a couple of hours down there and it’s an up hill track back if you need the loo. We hired bikes and got very muddy so a couple of washing machines would be an idea.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The area around the campsite was great for walks and plenty of places to exercise the dogs. Staff very friendly and helpful. Facilities were clean and well maintained. Lots to explore around for all ages.

Disliked: Unfortunately the pitch provided was a boggy mud patch when we arrived. We would not have chosen to pitch on a wet and boggy pitch but had little choice. An effort to cover the pitch between guests might help to retain the integrity of the pitch better. Other people staying made little effort to stick to the "quiet hours", despite these clearly stated in the welcome pack. The lights to illuminate the pathways were located directly next to the pitch so full light all night which was not great for sleeping. Maybe a dark backing on the side of the light that faces the pitches. The rubbish collection point should be located further from pitches due to the constant noise of the banging of the heavy gate at all times of the early morning and late evening. Difficulty finding toilets/showers designated for customers due to lack of signage and clarity in information provided. Also, an alternative entrance for these facilities for those staying at the site would be helpful so you don't have to weave your way through those queuing for bikes etc when you are walking for a shower/ toilet. The cycle track located directly next to the pitches appeared to be open 24/7 which was already in use at 6.00 am (despite "quiet hours" supposedly designated until 7.00 a.m.). Not very great for those who don't want to be woken up in the early hours by sounds of kids bike rallying. Sadly we cut our 7 night stay down to 3 nights due to the pitch becoming so water logged which was not surprising considering we pitched up on an already boggy patch.

Local attractions

There’s a lot to do on site, for sure – but there’s also plenty to keep you busy when venturing out into your surroundings. The Pembrokeshire coast, for example, is less than half an hour’s drive away, for beach days in the likes of Broad Haven (half an hour’s drive), the ever-popular Tenby or its neighbour Saundersfoot (both 40 minutes). Pembrokeshire’s packed with historic places to visit too, including the lovely little city of St Davids (40 minutes), with its ancient cathedral and Bishops’ Palace. Carew Castle & Tidal Mill (35 minutes) is also worth a visit, to hear the tale of the castle’s 2000-year history and see the only restored tidal mill in Wales. If that’s not the kind of thing your kids are keen on, perhaps instead plan trips to the Pembrokeshire Llama Sanctuary (15 minutes), Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (half an hour) or the action-packed Heatherton World of Activities (35 minutes) for things like paintballing, ziplines and crazy golf.
